Did anyone see the short machete on the Discovery Channel jungle survivor show featuring a Specops named Myke Hawke and know who makes it? any info on it?

Thanks,
Steve

Saw the show, saw the blade. I recognized it, but I don't remember the name of the company that makes it..... if they still make it. I saw it for sale years ago. What he was using is a parang, and that particular example is a very inexpensive one. I think I saw it in an old Smokey Mountain Knife Works catalog, for only a few bucks.

ok gang,
I emailed the hawke team directly -- here is a portion of their response:

"hawke actually used a cheap machete as they frequently get lost and break.
he just happened to like the style and weight of that one he found in s.e asia.

but he says it's too heavy for normal use. instead, he recommends
cold steel's kukri for woodland, their double edge machete for general survival,
and their heavy machete for jungle, or light for jungle when alot of cutting work is expected.

or simply go with the good old fashioned u.s. army jungle machete with the protective handle
for the fingers and remember to always carry a file as they get dull and
usually, there are no stones in the deep jungle.

as for the knife, cold steel makes the best commando knives as well.
he prefers their dual edged as weapons but actually uses SPEC PLUS MK3 MOD O
for his survival as it has a dual edge, a saw blade and he can hammer
with the end of the handle to break nuts and shells open, etc."

what's your response to that?

When I watched that show on the discovery channel, I realized that I have the same knife, though the 13" (8" blade) version. The logo on the blade gives the name "Two Man" as the manufacturer.

My brother got it from an Iraqi street vendor while on tour there, attesting to the fact that it is a cheap, asian-made blade.

I'd be inclined to say that the blade is a "drop point bolo" rather than a parang, as described in the show.

The 8 inch blade makes for a perfect camp knife.
