Hi guys,

I always wear a neck knife, in addition to other blades. I recently spent a great day in the ocean for the first time since I started carrying and took along my Krein Cicada which is made of 3V. It got rusty, as I though it may. Cleaned up easy enough and I rewrapped it, god as new. Still a couple rust spots in the cut outs but I'll get them.

I know how you all love pics so:

Anyway, I want a similar knife, light weight, ~2" blade, 4-5" overal, tight kydex sheath.

I have a Fallkniven WM1 but it's too big and the sheath too loose for surfing.

I have an AG Russell woodswalker in 8A stainless, would that be ok for a day in the salt? It's a little big too.

Suggestions?

Entrek has the lynx which is 440c. They also have a designated dive knife of the same. Take a look. They are great knives!

Boker Tom Krein Grasshopper. Pretty much the same as your custom 3V Cicada, but it's a production knife in 440C. 440C is pretty rust resistant, although salt water could still do a number on it. The Grasshopper though has a titanium coating which will protect it from rust. At <$30, what more could you want?

The Entrek Lynx looks too big and heavy for what I want, though I would still love one for carry elsewhere!

Planterz, now you mention it I recall seeing the grasshopper on the AG Russell site about a year ago (maybe less) and I had completely forgot about it! One on order now :) Also ordered a Boker MA-2, another $20 skeleton necker.

That Mission MPU Ti looks great, will read up more, try to find length etc. never had an all Ti knife, and it hopefully won't get used much in the ocean, just for emergency use.

How rigid of a knife do you require? I have contemplated making a kydex sheath for neck carry for a Spyderco H1 knife (they are really light, but certainly not comparable to a fixed blade).

Cheap, rust proof, light...works for me.

You could always take a look at the buck smidgen. They're pretty handy little guys.

I clip my Pacific salt to my swim shorts. My son lost my other Salt in the Gulf side of Fla last summer! If you find that one your search is over!
