This one is a departure from what I usually make. I went for the "antique" look. Right down to the blood stained blade and worn sheath.

I used an interesting technique on the handle. I "ebonized" the wood by using vinegar and rust.

I hope you guys like, or at least find this one interesting.

WOW!

That is a fantastic looking short sword! Looks like it belongs right in the midst of mortal combat.........excellent execution sir!

Very nice piece, what is the "ebonizing process",how do you do it,do you have any tutorial/link?what kind of wood did you start with?

It is a very simple process that works great with oak (not sure about other wood). Fill a dixie cup with white vinegar and drop in a small amount of steel wool or steel nails. Let it sit for a few days. The result will be a rusty looking liquid.

Simply apply to the wood with a brush. A couple of coats will turn the oak black with the grain showing through.

That was exactly what I was looking for a couple of months ago when I tried to find somebody to make me a hog hunter. Perhaps just a slightly larger guard.

Double edged, 2" wide, 1/4 thick, and carbon steel.. siiigh..

What should something like that cost? If you one time thought about making one again?

VERY nice, Mark.

Thanks Phillip! :D

Well...I won't even be thinking about another large one for awhile, not until I start filling some of my other orders first anyways. :o

Give Phillip Patton a holler...he makes awesome double edged blades that would be well suited for hog hunting!
