Short, Tough Pocket Pen

Can anyone recommend a short, tough pocket pen? I want something short enough to fit in a rear jeans pocket and tough enough not to get scratched up if it rubs up against things.

Can anyone tell me how well the black finish on the Fisher Bullet Pens hold up? Or how badly finish on the Fisher Telescoping Pen scratches?

Does anyone have other suggestions for a really short pen? A stylus would be a bonus, but I'm more concerned about finding the right pen.

The telescoping space pen I have has gotten very marked up in since Christmas. The black ti-coated bullet model I have didn't get scratched noticably in over a year of carry.

Try the SPACETEC GRIP made by Diplomat, overall length is 3.5 closed & 4.0 closed. Twist to open & close comes with attached split ring on end.aluminum ,can be ordered in black matt.mines silver. This is a really well built little pen cant guarantee that it wont scratch though. Cost me $19.95 plus s/h from Airline International luggage fine writing instruments. airlineintl.com

Another vote for the black ti coated Bullet. I've carried mine in the bottom of the pocket with coins and it still looks very new.

I like the Cross Ion a lot, it is a tough little package, but I don't know about bumping up against other gear in a pocket. One good point in favor of the Ion is, you have to pull it apart to extend the tip, so it won't accidentlly open in your pocket like a push-button.

The matte black Space Pen "bullet" is close to indestructable, as is the chrome, but the black is a better grip.

Thank you for all the information and opinions! I have ordered a black titanium Bullet Pen and a black Diplomat GripTec. Between the two I should be in pretty good shape. :)

I'll let you know how they wear after I've carried them for a few months.

I'm constantly looking for other alternatives, but the Fisher bullet is the best thing I've found. I like the non-shiny finishes better, for grip purposes. I keep losing and refinding them, so I have 4 or 5 floating around the house and office. I don't like to keep the clip on, but wish they had one flat side to prevent rolling on a flat surface.

The telescopic space pen seems just a bit more fragile than it needs to be, and the Ion is kind of bulky for its size. I've just picked up a Lamy Pico, which seems to be an alternative to the Fisher telescopic--but it uses a very tiny refill. Can't say anything about durability yet.
