Hanna is going to Camp Quality, (a camp for kids with cancer), the week of August 8th, so as we normally do, we will be taking Hayley for a couple of "day trips." One of the days we will be going down to Amish country down by Arcola, (my wife and Hayley both love homemade crafts, and it will give me a chance to hunt down old knives and hatchets), and somewhere else the other day. So on the 11th and 12th I will be out of the shop.

That sounds like an adventure for everyone! When the time comes I'll keep y'all in my prayers for safe travels.

John, Be sure to get over to the village of Arthur, where the real Amish Shop! A few miles out of town is the "off the grid" hardware store I told you about, ask in Arthur for directions! Have Fun!

That`s the plan, drive through Arcola to Arthur, then hit Arcola, and Tuscola on the way back north. I`ll look for that store, and I want to check out the gunshop in Arthur (just past the RR tracks.)

Good story about Arthur. About 7 years ago Connie wanted to get a nice curio cabinet. We went to several "Amish" furniture stores around here, they wanted anywhere from $700 - $1100 for one. Coming back from Connie's Moms house in DuBois, we stopped at a cabinet shop (where they made wood furniture) on the outskirts of Arthur, and bought one there for $300.

Sounds like lots of fun. We're on a little trip of our own. A few days ago we went to the Columbia River Maritime Museum. One of the displays is on whaling. It took some big knives to process a whale!

Very nice! Enjoy the trip and have some well earned relaxation!

I'm jealous. I go on road trips every day but rarely have fun doing it.

John,
All the best on your short vacation. I'm on a mini vacation myself. I've got my Element EDC and a very special R#9 with me. What are you bringing along?

I always have my Kane in my pack that I take with me, and probably either my Victorinox Pioneer or Case Trapper in my pocket.

I didn't read the dates and kept checking to see what treasure you brought home. Hope you have a fun and safe trip.
