Had a couple of hours of free time, so i decided to go on a short solo dayhike today to spot some tracks and maybe make a fire. Didnt really matter what i did, as long as i was alone and away from it all. Pics are taken in southern denmark.
It was a couple hours before sunset. The weather was clear and the sun was out. Temps were just below freezing.
I was wearing some Haglofs pants and underneath those i had some poly thermals and wool socks. On top i was wearing a North Face McMurdo Parka and a wool balaclava . The balaclava is made by woolpower which is a Gransfors sister company. I didnt know that untill i read the Gransfors axe book that came with my axe. The balaclava comes in 2 versions, a 200 gram and a 400 gram. Mine is the 400 gram version which i only wear when sitting still.
I was wearing some Columbia gloves, which had some sort of thermal reflective inside, which is supposed to reflect your bodyheat back at you keeping your hands warm. I dont know if they are any warmer than regular gloves, but they kept my hands warm just fine.
Boots for this outing were my Meindl Island Pro. I absolutely love these boots. They provide great ankle support plus theyre waterproof and theyre tough as nails. I had brought along some gaiters, becuase i had anticipated the snow would be deeper, but i left them in my pack this time.
Heres my daypack, Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon II. I usually use this as my edc pack. I just emptied it and threw in my kit for this trip. I have added some extra pouches on the back + on the shoulder straps.
The forest was filled with tracks. Took this picture of a game trail. It was primarily used by red foxes and roe deer. At the bottom of the picture you can see where the roe deer urinated.
I couldnt get the white balance right in this pic, but if you look closely youll see tracks from 4 different animals. In the left of the pic you can see tracks from a bird of some sort, im guessing a sparrow. In the middle of the pic are bounding polecat tracks. Going from south to north are red fox and some old roe deer tracks. I should have remembered to place somthing in the pic for scale. I did that in the following pics, but they werent as detailed as this.
An RC3 for scale.
