Even though up here in Scandinavia, winter is still far from going (load of snow -15c)my mind turns to summer.

Shorts weather in fact, or swim shorts even. Can you suggest a lightweight slim knife for this situation?

Needs: Clip, single handed opener, must be slim.

I have a Kershaw Chive but I do not like metal handles, they're out.Suspicious of that assisted opener/lock anyway..

I HAD a Spyderco Dragonfly but gave it to a young woman friend who now walks around Paris with it clipped to her boot:D But, I didn't like the flimsy feeling integral clip, felt cheap. My Mini Grip is too bulky for this.

Any other suggestions please?

I like to carry a cold steel voyager in my waist band when wearing lightweight shorts

Delica 4, and related spyderco's is about the slimmest knife you're likely to find. Boker trance anouther good option.

price range and size?

I wear shorts when hiking and backpacking, and here's the knife I carry. No clip, but the lanyard makes it lose-proof. It's one-hand-opening with the thumb button on the locking sheath. Not the most slender knife, but it's very lightweight and there are no worries about 'suspicious' locks or actions.

My favorite slender folder is the AG Russell Featherlite. No clip, but it has a lanyard hole, which is more secure anyway.

Than go one size up: Caly Jr. (regular steel clip) It is discontinued, but no big problem to find one on e-bay. Also, later this year Spyderco is going to make G10 Dragonfly. Check also new Urban, but it is little more expensive or go with UKPK / Caly3.

Maybe something like a Spyderco Salt1. It's linerless FRN, so it's light (2 oz) and thin. And it won't rust if you sweat a lot during the summer months. You even get your option of a black handle or a friendly yellow handle.

Have you looked at the Boker Chad Trance or his Sub-Coms.
FRN one side, so you would have it next your body if clipped on your waist

I also use a Spydco Native, which is very thin (there are two types, one is much thinner)

Thanks for all your ideas.

Price range is open, pity Benchmade don't do a slim small knife...
The Caly looks interesting and the other Spyderco options but the knife must be compact and under 4" closed. The Böker is an option I hadn't thought of before.

Now we just need spring....at least 2 months away here!

benchmade's 940 is very thin and light. it does have aluminum handles, but they aren't as bad as stainless. I carry mine clipped to the waistband of my shorts all the time during the summer. or, if you feel like spending a little more money you might look on the exchange here, or on benchmade's forums, for a 770BC1. it is maybe 3" closed, with carbon fiber scales, but has been out of production for a number of years. still, about the lightest, smallest benchmade I can think of.

A lot of great suggestions. I'd like to submit a couple for your consideration. One being the Kershaw Skyline. It has thin G10 scales with nice grip, flipper, clip, and a thin blade that takes a wicked sharp edge. Another one would be the Spyderco Centofante 3 or 4 (I like the 4 personally), it has a bit more girth. The handles is not a grippy as the Skyline's but it has a good shape with a nice thumb ramp and it's lockback.

Spyderco Endura 4.
It's slim enough, but still tough and lightweight, for shorts carry without being a problem.

The Spyderco Cricket keeps ending up in the pocket or band of my lightest pants. Weighs next to nothing, as slim as they get, and a wickedly sharp blade that cuts much bigger than you would think. My co-worker refers to it as my lobster claw of dismemberment.

I like my Spyderco Q for light shorts. I almost forget I'm carrying it most of the time. It's my current utility folder of choice with my Kumo. Only bad thing about the Q is the flimsy pocket clip that I no longer have.

My summer swim knife is a Tom Mayo Covert. If you do not want to go that route, then I would suggest something from the Spyderco Salt series! (I own a Salt 1.)The blade is H1, and is rust proof.

You should take a look at the Spyderco Urban or UKPK

Here is my Urban:
