who is going to the SHOT show in vegas this year? i'm going for the first time and i'm really looking forward to it. especailly since it's buisiness and therefore free. i hope to get to see some sneak peeks from the knife/flashlight world.

any tips, suggestions, etc for a first time SHOT show attendee?

Be sure you wear VERY comfortable walking shoes. You will do alot of walking and standing, on concrete, the entire time you are there. Also, something to carry literature in....like a bookbag[backpack style] or even a small cart with wheels, is a good idea.

You won't believe all the stuff you are going to want to pick up and carry around all day:rolleyes:

See you there....come by the CAMILLUS booth #4821 and see us!

this may be a stupid question but are people set up there to sell things or just show off? will there be plenty to buy (or better yet...free samples!)

it does help that my company sells knives and i am the buyer (and a professional user). hopefully i can score some good stuff. you can be sure you'll all hear my impressions soon afterwards.

thanks for your input.

ps- WILL: i'll be by. i've been meaning to talk to you guys about your line. i look forward to meeting you.

it's a REALLY big trade show in Las Vegas in Feb. that is open to the outdoor, hunting, fishing, camping, law enforcement, knife, gun, flashlight, etc,. you have to be in the buisiness somehow (or a guest of someone who is). according to my Benchmade Rep it's something like the 3rd largest trade show in the world.

in other words...it should be a pretty fun time. life is rough. i'm going for work.

:)

Tom is right, wear good walking shoes. If I remeber correctly, if you walk down every isle the distance is over 12 miles.

Last year I carried a briefcase. At the end of each day I could barely carry it. This year I'm taking Will's advise a using a case with wheels.

If you are going to SHOT with someone, take radios. That way if you get separated you can find each other.

That show is sounding better with each additional inch of snow that piles up outside the shop. I am going to think about it for next year.

Are you serious? The largest show I've evern been too was a security industry conference in San Francisco a few years back. I can't even imagine a show the size you describe.

Not if I see you first!!!! :p

I was just in Vegas two weeks ago, and there was a big building industry convention there........I heard the guy say on the radio that the convention center is equal to 40 football fields!!!!!

Thats a lot of stuff!!!!

Dark,
I don't know about this year...but a few years ago in New Orleans, the show promoter told me there was 18.5 miles of isles[!]. I've been going for MANY years[since the late 80's], and I never have felt like I've seen the whole show.

If I'm not mistaken, the last show in Las Vegas had a little over 10,000 booths.

I'll be at the CRKT booth when I'm not out visiting with Will, Mayo, Onion, and countless other knifemakers that will be there.

Looking forward to visiting with you all.

Well, Damn. Dexter was the last one that posted on Bladeforums.com with this laptop. I forgot to log him out and log myself in.

Dexter didn't post the above, I did :)

Sorry about that.

wow. i thought i was gonna get to see some cool stuff from benchmade and spyderco etc. i had no idea i'd be face to face with the legends of knife making. this is gonna be better than i thought.

are cameras allowed in the show? i'd love to get some digital pix so i can remember stuff i saw.

It appeared to be OK to take personal photos with the vendors permission. A cart is a good idea. I used a backpack and it was full in no time, then I started to fill up some bags of stuff that I had to carry.
