Anyone hear anything about Buck at the 2008 SHOT show? The only thing I've seen so far is this blog entry (not sure how reliable the source is):

Easy-Opening 750 RedpointTMKnife Introduced by Buck

Knives that open with one hand are convenient, but if you're wearing gloves it can be a challenge. Not so with the innovative new Model 750 Redpoint folder introduced by Buck Knives, as the latest collaborative effort with the renowned mountaineer Peter Whittaker.

Thanks to Buck's SafeSpinTM blade rotator (built into the end of the blade) you can open it with one finger, never touching the blade. Just pull back on the over-sized button on the handle to disengage the lock and open the blade. The button lock on the handle functions as a safety feature, locking and unlocking the blade, in both the open and closed positions.

The 2-3/4” blade, made of Buck's preferred 420HC stainless steel, is a partially serrated drop-point. The all-weather grip handle is thermoplastic with a rubber overmold for comfort and control. At the butt-end of the handle there's a large Utility ArchTM for easy attachment, and it serves as a handy bottle opener. The handle offers a removable stainless steel pocket/belt clip for carrying options. The Redpoint comes in four colors – black, platinum, blue and yellow. MSRP for the Model 750 is $33.

As with all Buck knives, the blade is finished with Buck's advanced Edge2xTM technology, making it sharper out of the box, hold an edge longer and easier to re-sharpen. And, of course, the Redpoint is backed by Buck's unconditional lifetime warranty.

I know for sure that they had an awesome new booth! I ended up not going this year so cant report on much of anything else.

Saw the new blade style nighthawk on display at the BUCK SHOT Show display. Also saw a new folding tactical model called the "Bravo". It has G-10 scales w/ BOS treated blade. Looks like a beefy alpha folder. Lastly, new simonich fixed tactical knife w/ BOS treated blade and really cool Simonich grips similar to his 1911 style grips. No further info. or pics because the booth was packed and SHOT show doesn't allow photos unless you are media or press. Noticeably absent from Buck tactical display was any models from Buck strider collaboration.

Thanks for the report Buddah. I always thought the Alpha folder would make a darn good tactical knife. But, hey they all sound pretty cool.....

And for those that want a picture... ;)

I looked all over for a pic of that knife APF.... LOL Thanks!

It looks pretty cool to me.

We had a wonderful shot show. It was not as well attended as most shows in Vegas. I think it was because of the super bowl (and what a game it was).

We introduced a brand new booth to the trade that is a preview of our branding direction that will be introduced to our consumer base in 2009. It had a Huge picture of Hoyt Buck (my great grandfather) overlooking the entire booth with a fireplace and all... it and totally captured the feeling of walking into our lobby with lots of real wood material and historical photos.

We had a game where dealers used the Xtract tool one handed to turn a screw, tighten a bolt, cut a piece of licorice and finally puncture a can and the quickest time won something. Fun and totally educated our dealers how cool the product was.

Our new products included a fishing version of the Xtract tool called the "Fin"(Import). It has a scissors instead of a can opener.

We have two versions of the Gen 5 skinner (USA). One has S30V blade and checkered wood handles while the other has 420HC and Black handles.

We introduced an import 3 piece set of fillet knives called "Silver Creek". A 9" blade and a 6" blade with a bait knife (has serrations along back of blade).

The reception of the Alpha Bravo Folder(USA) was a total surprise. It is the Alpha chasis with a Besh Wedge blade grind. It is the coolest geometry you ever saw and gives maximum prying power without sacrificing puncturability or cutting edge. Simple but amazing. Designed by a canadian special forces guy but I think more toolish then weaponish. (which is why we did it)

We introduced a few new Sirus assisted opener models(USA), one with camo and the other with a screaming eagle...pretty cool graphics.

The knife we are making inspired by Rob Simmonich is the Raven Legacy(USA). It is sized between two knives he used to make and we put as much thought into the sheath as he did into the knife. It will be a good choice for a fixed bladed survival knife. Rob was known to disappear into the woods for a week with nothing more then a blanket, a gun and his knife.

As to Strider...last year we mutually ended our collaboration agreement on pleasant terms. Our brand direction going forward is more focused away from tactical weapons and more towards hunting/fishing and everyday carry.

I will have some pictures that were taken at the show soon and will work with Joe to get them and new products posted.

Thanks for the report CJ. The Simonich model should sell very well. :thumbup:A great designer and all 'round cool guy Rob was. I'll be headed to the Buck site now.

Thanks CJ for taking the time to 'heads-up' us Buck Affectionados! :)
The Simonich collaboration looks to have a home here asap! Custom scales optional (?) or am I ahead of myself? The Xtract will find a home here as well! How cool for the President ( and great grandson ) to address us forumites.......kinda like Family!
