Probably old news to many, but I was so pleasantly surprised that I wanted to give props.

A while back when the catalog became available on line the reception (on various forums) was lackluster. It seems that there was not enough new cool stuff in there to feed everyone's jones.

My buddy just got back from SHOT and brought a Spyderco catalog to me (I am sure this is no reasonable substitute for actually going to SHOT BTW). Anyway, this is one beautiful catalog! If you printed one out off the web and were not impressed, I can understand why. The full sized glossy embossed version I have is sweet.

As an interesting observation, the Military on Page 15 is actual size. It may be an accident, but it got me thinking what a great idea it would be to make everything in the catalog actual size in the future...just a thought.

Anyway, Thanks Spyderco! I for one think the new catalog is the best one yet.

You are fortunate, sounds like you got the large dealer catalog. As a dealer, I used to be able to get extras to give to better customers. Now, in order to cut costs (and waste), Spyderco is only giving 1 or 2 to each dealer.

Ohh...I can certainly understand the need to do that...this must be a fairly expensive piece to hand out! I wonder if they can be purchased?

While there is nothing in this that can not be found readily on the website, it sure travels better than my PC and has a better display than my iPhone screen. It is a great resource to have on hand...especially for a dealer or semi-serious collector (the serious collector won't need one as he/she will already have all pertinent data memorized in the event that they do not already own examples of the knife in question).

That was already the case with all the knives but the real big ones (Hossom) at least in the 2007 and 2008 catalog, give or take a few mm. (Don't know about the older ones, these are the only catalogs I own in the big variety.) That's no accident, that's on purpose.

Don't think the lukewarm reception was due to the physical appearance of the catalog, in fact most said it was very attractive. The most common negative observations were the relatively low number of new models, the lack of any real surprises, and the omission of certain dimensions, notably blade thickness and Spyderhole diameter, which some of us like to have.
