I have a Mossberg P/A and semi auto, I was wondering if you could give me a good knife carry to complement either of these 2 guns, its details could include anything from skinning rabbits, cutting off a foxes tail, building a hide or setting snares, there is no price range but keep it realistic to my pocket, about $300, but your choice might only $30 it doesn't matter, blade style, material etc all left up to yourself. Thanks

Hunting?
Don't be a wise guy!
What d'ya hunt with a knife?
Name it!

A couple come to readily to mind:
a) Bob Dozier Yukon Pro Skinner
b) Simonich Talonite Cetan
c) Brunton Lakota Finwing
d) Neil Blackwood Small Hunter

All of these knives would serve as excellent field companions... skinning & preparing any game you might capture (from squirrels and birds, to deer, to any of our largest game).

The most expensive is the Talonite Cetan (~$300, depending upon the options you choose, like titanium handle scales, etc.).

The least expensive is the Finwing, which can be found for ~$75.

The Dozier can be had for ~$160, while the Blackwood is slightly more.

Any of these would serve you exceptionally well for many, many years.

Well, I'm fond of my Benchmade Nimravus, and it certainly has a look that would seem to go well with most guns (no-nonsense, clean lines, not that it is overly weapon-like). M2 is a great steel. Obviously, some of the customs would probably be better, but you pay for the difference in quality. If you decide you want to stay in the lower half of that price range, I don't think you would be disappointed with the M2 Nimravus (or the Cub, if you want a slightly smaller blade).

For skinning I suggest a wider blade.

Fixed :
Spyderco Bill Moran or Cold Steel Master Hunter

Folder :
Buck 110 Hunter or Gerber Gator with drop point.

This is how I dress up my Mossberg:

I wrote most of that at work after drinking massive amounts of coffee. I needed to look busy and that dribbled out of my head. There's also a whole bunch of Optical Illusions.

AJ,
Thanks for the mention, I appreciate that. I made myself a double leather sheath that holds a Small Hunter and a Small Game. This combinations has proven usefull for upland game hunting. For some reason I prefer the Small Game for rabbits and birds, maybe because it's a little more pointy

I use the Small Hunter for all around utility use and larger game.
I REALY miss hunting in NY

For outright utility and service it is hard to beat the Cold Steel SRK. For style however I like the looks of the Marbles, especially the Trailmaker.

Now if you shot a Benelli, then I would say a Chris Reeve Shadow III or Mountaineer I.

Its just because thats what I fancy at present.

I have to agree with Greenjacket.

Benelli Super Black Eagle with a Microtech D/A Tactical Socom. Now that is a pair to take hunting.

Sorry, Bennet, but since Mossberg was the only shotgun in my inventory to have a bayonet lug, I was somewhat limited in my choice of photos.

(Also, I don't have the vang-comped 870.... just 2 plain jane 870s. If it makes ya happy, I can drill some holes on the muzzle and duct tape my Al Mar Pathfinder to it)

Always willing to please,

Timmy, the bayonet lug is welded onto the barrel of the Mossberg 590, so I doubt that you'd be able to get some kinda bolt-on lug.
Sorry about that!

I really the like 590, FWIW. Hi-cap mag, heat shield, bayonet lug... heh heh... looks very scary.
Plus, it's the weapon of choice for the USMC so that's more than good dnough for me!!
