So it was about a million degrees in the Niagara Region today, and it didn't make for much good deer hunting. Seriously it must have been 15 degrees mid day today, and the deer were not moving at all. Only saw one doe, and the guys pushing the bush practically had to step on her to find her, and unfortunately they weren't so lucky hitting her, as she ran through the bush. Didn't even see her myself as I was out blocking.
Minutes after the pushers shots rang out I heard a hell of a racket as something was tearing through the bush straight at me, as I waited at the end of one of the most used deer trails in the bush thinking I was gonna get lucky. Not quite the way it ended up playing out though......
So what comes out of the bush? A friggin coyote! Not unheard of, but around here they are very timid, and for it to have waited soo long to come out of the bush was a surprise to me. The pushers were practically through the bush, and almost on top of him! Weird.....
Anyway's he came out on the deer trail, and as soon as he saw me turned on a dime into the tall grass, but not fast enough. hit him right through the grass from about 30m with a deer slug right in the shoulder, and he was obviously down.
Haven't shot a coyote for a couple years, as I never went coyote hunting last year, so I was still pretty happy, despite not getting any deer in our group today.
Not the biggest coyote but she was well fed. My buddy, who's property we were on, was happy.
UPDATE:
So today was a new day. Took a couple days off from hunting to get back to work, but had the morning today so....
We got 2 small does, likely from this year.
Sucks that we missed their mother, and a big buck that were all in the same bush but still happy to have something hangin.
And just because I'm a redneck at heart, and just so happen to be hunting with a few of em........
