Should a buck 110 have any side to side blade play?

Contact Buck. Return it and get a new one. The lady I had to talk to a while ago was very nice, and helpful. My older 110 (early 2000's) has no blade play. The bolsters really hold up.

110's usually have solid build, and Buck have good reputation for their service. If you are bothered by it ask Buck to fix it for you.

What I did for my brand new 110 was i found a thick phonebook (so as to not damage the knife) and put the top of the 110 halfway between the whole book. Then got a hammer and hit once and checked for play. Kept doing that. It's been years and it's still tight.

Screwed knives should have no blade play. But it's par for the course for a pinned knife to have a little or over time develop a little blade play, which can't be fixed. It shouldn't be too much, though.

Easy fix.
1. Put ONLY brass knife bolster containing hinge pin in padded vise jaws. Make damn sure to keep the the knife scales out of the vise jaws.
2. Squeeze bolster gently
3. Check to see if blade play is gone. Tightness to open knife will increase slightly
4. Repeat if you didn't squeeze hard enough first time and squeeze just a little tiny bit harder
5. Check again
6.Repeat cycle as required. Don't overdo it.

Unless you are a total KLUTZ anyone should be able to do this without needing to send it to Buck. Even if you don't have a vise one of your neighbors or friends should have one. If you are a total KLUTZ then send it to Buck. The hammer method described above can damage the scales if you miss even slightly.

P.S. If you don't have a vise or even access to one then you have a high probability of being a KLUTZ and might want to send it directly to Buck.

LOL. If it doesn't work right, hit it with a hammer!! Time tested remedies; gotta love 'em.:D

I wouldn’t try to fix it yourself, it is under warranty and if you can’t get it right and it shows signs that you tried to fix it they may charge you.

I just received my 2 110’s that had side to side blade play. Sent them on a Monday, Buck received them on that Wednesday, 2 weeks later, this past Wednesday, they were in my hand with no blade play. This was the only time I have ever sent a Buck knife in and I am very happy with their customer service.

I just received a spanking new Buck 500 in the mail, and was dismayed to find that there was some play in the blade. Happily, I found this forum thread. I took SuzukiGS750EZ's advice, applied the "hammer and book" technique, and was overjoyed to find that it did indeed fix the blade play without denting or disfiguring the bolster. Good tip, thank you, now I don't have to send it back to Buck!

BTW, the 500 is now my favorite buck knife. Great EDC material, if you don't mind a bigger knife. I couldn't be happier.

My old 110 had play in all directions. That's common for every lockback I've owned though.
