Should a dive knife be all stainless steel, or should it also have a handle for grip. If it had a grip, then wouldn't salt water find its way in and around the tang and rust it even after the knife was removed?

The answer is, of course, "yes" and "no".
Can't believe a senior member would ask, anyway...

Brian's right.

Geez, General.....only three knives !
You have no idea how much I respect someone with that much self-control.

No one really needs any more than three knives. 'specially if they are good'uns.
Seriously !

The answers are, actually, "yes", "no", and "yes" again.

And I can't believe that "seniors" would respond in such an unruly manner (I'm trying to be nice), to a sincerely asked question! I'm not a senior. If I had asked the same question would it have been answered differently?

The only stupid question, IMHO, is the one we want to ask but don't, cuz we're afraid of the response we may get.

Talas....News Flash : you are a senior!
AND pretty bloody unruly, as well.
And that WAS a stupid question....of course we don't treat members like that....only seniors.
And, as for the "God Bless".....forget it. It's a bit late for some of us....and don't give me any of that "it's never too late".
And lots of

I'm a Senior! Amazing! Absolutely astounding!

I was mistaken (I don't check back often enough to see those types of changes). I apologize. But I wasn't yet at the beginning of this morning, which for most of you is yesterday afternoon (I live on the world's other side from most of y'all).

Brian - lol!
#1 - I don't ask stupid questions.

#2 - You should treat 'senior' citizens with a bit more respect.

#3 - It ain't over till you're six feet under! As long as you're walking on top of the ground, there's hope.

To get back to General Lobster's question, Strider knives are made of ATS-34 and most of them have cordwrapped handles ... if any stainless dive knife has a problem with corrosion inside the handle you'd think it would be that design. I recall seeing a post recently on a knife that was sent back for sharpening after six years of use and no maintenance, and they removed the cordwrap, found some rust and a lot of sand inside, cleaned it up and rewrapped it, good as new. Look at the Strider forum at www.knifeforums.com for details.

If cordwrapped ATS-34 survives that well, seems to me the more common dive knives made of 440A or similar with polymer handles bonded on are not likely to have a problem.

P.S. I decided I wasn't so lazy after all and searched the Strider forum for that post -- and I can't find it! Maybe it was a hallucination ... maybe I've slipped into an alternate reality where that post never was posted ... maybe I'm having an acid flashback ... maybe the search function at Knifeforums is buggy ... maybe he misspelled both "sand" and "rust" so the search function can't find the post ... I dunno.

Anyway, I'm durn sure cordwrapped ATS-34 Strider knives are used by divers and apparently they are not complaining about rust and demanding their money back in large numbers or loud voices (Strider knives are unconditionally guaranteed).

Kit Carson cahnged the handle slabs on his U2 to slotted screws so you could remove them and clean underneath to avoid rust. The Buck "Intrepid" is manufactured the same way.

Also since the subject of senior has been brought up. I would like to ask the same question I get at my office. Do we get a senior discount?

Just Kidding.

Cheers,
