Should everyone own a Delica at some point?

I'm pretty new to this hobby and am quickly building a small collection. So far I have a Michael Morris friction folder, a Buck 300, Kershaw Leek, CRKT Swindle, a few traditional slip joints and another Buck in a skeleton body (I can't recall the model).

I read a lot about the Delica here but I have 2 reservations. First is the width, I prefer my blades to fit further into the case aesthetically. Second is the case material. I lean more towards metal cases. Maybe I'm being too picky. And maybe among the myriad Spyderco models, there's another that's more my style. My budget is under $100.00.

Thanks in advance for your input.

The Delica uses a really good resin, as far as plastics go. The mold work is very good. The traction plan is wonderfully engineered (including the clip placement in relation to the frictiony bits).

Give it a try. 1 billion Delica owners can't be wrong. If you don't like it, they hold their value and can be easily, instantly sold.

What you are calling a "case", most people here would call "scales".

My first Delica arrived yesterday. I purchased the new Zome with the S30V steel and the unpainted clip. I was a long time hold out on a Delica. I have a Native 5, a Para3, a Dragonfly and I just sold an Endura.

It is a terrific knife. I am glad I waited as I really like this version. It just enough different from the regular VG10 model currently offered. I don’t think you would be disappointed and the price is less than your knife budget.

PS. Save up for a Benchmade 940 in aluminum if you really like metal scales and a slim profile.

I hesitated to buy a Spyderco knife for a long time because I simply didn't like the look with the hump and hole. Then I bought a Native 5 which was followed within 6 months by the Endura and Delica. The Delica was purchased because I wasn't comfortable carrying the Endura, but I own two Enduras. Sometimes they feel like a sword in my hand... FRN handles work and they certainly make the knife more economical to buy.

Yes scales. Thanks for the correction.

I think everyone should own a Delica at some point. If nothing else, it provides a benchmark for thin, relatively inexpensive, very light weight folders. I've had several.

But if you want a metal handle, and you want to pay less than $100, you might look at a Cold Steel Code 4. Different knife entirely, but it does have a metal handle and meets your price limit.

Yes, if you like knives, you must own a Delica. They are simply one of the best sub $100 knives you can own.

If you hate it, and you likely won't, it will sell on the exchange.

Well the delica is no BUCK 110, Vic tinker, or Case sodbuster, but for modern folders while I don't own one yet I'd say it's probably the one modern folder that everyone should probably own at some point if interested.

Just like every knife it won't be for everyone, but I can't think of any one specific modern folder that's as prevalent and recognized as the spyderco delica.

Yes.

I would stretch to say that for most people the first folding knife should be a delica.

The only downside is that with a Delica as a first knife, he'll become a knife knut, go off and spend thousands of dollars on dozens of knives, and once he gets his education through experience, he'll realize that he had a perfect EDC pocket knife right from the get-go.

I might be speaking from experience here, but I'll be damned if I admit it....

Pretty good advice. I didn't care for mine, which was fine because my wife had already claimed it. She's never wanted another edc since.
I'm pretty sure she would cut me if I ever tried to take it back.:)

Good choice. I had one and liked it quite a bit.

If you like the Delica, but want metal scales check out the Spyderco Mantra 1. It's basically a Delica with a long blade and titanium scales. It's a little over your $100 limit used, but if you watch the exchange here you could find one around that price.

A delica is a great knife to start with. That and a mini griptillian are great entry level into spending more and more. It gives you an idea of what good materials and quality are at that price.

Don't they make a Delica with ss handles...? I'm also pretty sure there was a ti handled version as well.
