Should I be concerned?

My Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri has scratches on the side from inserting and removing from the sheath (I've never "abused" it or scratched it on anything if that matters). Should I be concerned? Like should I turn it in to CS? The scratches are deep enough to catch my nail on.

Nope.
In fact you should use the snot out of it instead and add a whole lot more.
Think of it not as scratches but battle scars!

If you're serious, cool. I've heard mixed things about this but isn't it normal for sheaths of that type to scratch blades?

I haven't had mine get scratched by the sheath. I do have some scratches on it, but that was from trying to scrub off some rust that formed near the handle. Usually wear like that bothers me, but honestly it keeps looking cooler as it patinas and gets marked up.

I keep it very well oiled. I'm kind of OCD about my stuff. I'm getting to the point where I just want to sell it to a friend for a couple D2 custom knives or a d2 sword if he accepts... (He honestly would make me anything out of D2 heat treated and all with an amazing edge for 40 bucks) But that's not going to help any when I get that stuff the process will repeat.

scratches... if its kydex especially, that will happen. and if you don't like scratches, you really otta not get "user knives" like cold steel or whatnot. scratches are a part of the game chief. you don't like em, get a leather sheath... otherwise, just accept em as part of the deal. OCD doesn't really have a place in the user community. collector? sure, just don't use em

No need to be concerned at all. It's bound to happen with a kydex or plastic sheath. If you want to avoid scratches then get a leather sheath.

(Edit: ^ you beat me to it)

Cool thanks. I use them but I just like to take very good care of my stuff. I just sent CS a message about it. My main concern was how DEEP the scratches were. A good few could catch a nail.

What ticks me off is I love the knife so much. I mean I don't usually care about scratches that bad, but they are kinda deep. The scratches are only on one side and it scratches the whole blade horizontally but mostly in the front.

CS told me that they don't really know what to do about it. I cleaned out the sheath. I'm just kinda bummed about it.

You might have got some sand in there or something if they are very deep..... but I wouldn't worry about it one bit. They just look cooler the more you use em.

Think of it this way - did you buy it to be a wall mounted display piece, or did you buy it to actually chop stuff? If you bought it to chop stuff, go chop stuff with it!!!! I really don't understand the concern. Unless it looks like you took an angle grinder to it, I wouldn't worry. Are you that worried about a few wittle scratches on your big, bad chopper?!

And hey, go easy with the oil! If you want to avoid scratches, putting excess oil on your knife is the WORST thing you can do! A little oil is good - it protects against corrosion. Excessive amounts of oil traps dirt, grit, and dust, and as you are drawing your knife from the sheath it acts as an abrasive paste. (more scratches!~) A light coat is all you need. I keep an oiled rag in a Ziploc bag. Clean the blade first, wipe it with the rag, put the rag back in the bag so it won't dry out, done.

I use all of my knives. If I get ahold of something I don't use it gets sold or traded off. Scratches just come with the territory if you actually use your blades.

If the sheath is scratching the knife deeply, it likely has some grit or junk in it.

It is not something I would send back to a manufacturer.

It might be the oil you are using which is attracting grit or dirt. Oil can make a sticky, dust and dirt attracting surface. If you get a single grain of sand or grit down in a kydex sheath, it can get embedded in the plastic, and scratch scratch scratch.

Just use it, and quit worrying about it.

I bought it to use. Thanks :D Yeah I really hope it blends in. As it is you kind of have to angle the light right to see it. Sometimes I kind have to talk to people about stuff otherwise I get all worked up over nothing. Actually I think it might be because I was cutting cardboard targets and I hastily put it away because I had to do something. I wonder of it was little pieces of cardboard that did it. But it's more likely from thrusting and choppinginto the cardboard itself. Most of the scratched up areas are near the tip and sweet spot.

If it looks like that, and it is ONLY from putting it in the sheath and drawing it out, there is definitely something in the sheath. Either new sheath time, or just use it and don't worry about it. Can you take the sheath apart and clean it? Maybe go with leather. I've never had a leather sheath scratch a knife, but just about all kydex ones do it to an extent.

If you had posted a pic of that I would have LOL-LOL-LOL-LOL-LOL'd all over your thread! Just use it and don't worry about it. And easy on the oil!

I'll send you some pics of one of my hard use blades. If you show them to your Cold Steel knife it will run away crying and hide somewhere!

I know this is a cliche but if the light hits it just right... Yeah sorry D: A good cleaning and further inspection solved all of my problems. I really feel bad now for being a "wussy".

Those scratches on your pic is from use, not the sheath. Just use it and scratch it up more. Makes a knife look sexy!
