DPx Gear HEST 2.0?

I have watched every review, comparison, or test of this knife on youtube. It seems to be exactly what I'm looking for in my next knife but i unfortunately can not locate any opinions on the new 2.0 version on this forum. So i was thinking of ordering this tonight because it can still get here before hanukkah is over and that just give me an extra excuse to order myself a prize.

-the blade is thick and strong at almost 5mm!!!!
-the liner has a root block which i really like
-the glass breaker is almost always a must have on my edc knives
-the bottle opener is very neat and handy
-also the bottle opener/pry groove acts as a "wave" opening method

lastly they seemed to fix the lock bar problems seen in the 1st version. i have done my homework on this blade I'm just looking for a little reassurance before i take the dive.

for the 174$ shipped i can see why people are calling it the best bang for the buck even tho i paid 180$ for a zt 0300 and have been extremely impressed with that knife.

Get yourself a ZT 0550/0551 and call it a day.

i edc a zt 0300 and don't plan on buying another one until i loose or damage this one. i carry all the knives i own or they aren't worth buying to me. i just see the HEST as the knife to fill in the gaps i have in my collection or edc knives

My opinion is that I wouldn't own one without handling/inspecting it first. I do like the design.

Get the ZT 0550 or pretty much any other $175 knife - the bottom line is some are "pretty good" while others aren't and then there are those that come out "ok" after you tweak it and adjust it and disassemble it to bend the lock bar, etc.

I really like how HEST/F 2.0 fits my hand and the overall size is nice for EDC but they are just not as hard use as the MFG would have you believe. The lockbar contact area on the tang is less than 1/4" and mine had lock rock badly until I bent the lock bar and the blade isn't centered to add salt to the wound. Oh, and the lockbar sticks :) Adjusting the pivot can be frustrating too if you want to rid the knife of side to side play while preserving a fluid action.

I carry mine a lot now but I doubt I would cry if it broke it or I lost it.

There are a lot of good knives that fit the mould of the HEST/F 2.0 that will perform much better OOTB IMHO.

thanks for the input everyone i will check out the zt 0550 line. i wish north jersey had any "decent" knife stores with more than chinese spyderco's or Walmart specails

Good luck ;) You may need to save or spend a little more money but it's hands down a better knife in every respect I can think of. Mine came as perfect as production can be, right out of the box and ZT even refined some areas from the earlier made 0551's. My 0551 took weeks or months to feel like my 0550 right ootb. I'd die for a carbon copy of my 0550 with Elmax steel over the 0551 iteration if I could but we're talking subtle stuff minus the new tang grind for sure but we still have the 0560 and 0561 to look forward too soon anyway ;)

since dpx has the terrible "lock rock" and i don't want to buy another ZT til i see the 560's maybe i should just buy

Lion Steel SR-1 is a nice knife and i am fortunately having problems finding any problems with this knife.

i don't want this to come out the wrong way but the price doesn't matter very much to me as long as it makes me happy. i do want to avoid strider and CRK and xm-18's tho. the HEST design appiled to me so much that i don't think i can keep a knife like this out of my sight so i think i might go with a LS sr-1 or maybe the normal titanium model not the violet

Why avoid an XM-18? I'm pretty sure if you polled the entire forum, pitting an XM-18 against the SR-1, you would have a very lop-sided result in favor of the Hinderer.

Gotta go with Rob on this one as well. Not there is anything wrong with the SR-1, except maybe some youtubers had some lock failures, but hey, water under the bridge.

Rob is also a fan of the SNG and has a few of them, and if he is saying the XM-18 would be a better fit, for the same price, I would listen.

Just my $.02, really. I carry a ZT 350 and a Spyderco Paramilitary, so, I'm not gonna be able to recommend you anything but what I know about.

I have a ZT 350 and a DPx 2. Both are great knives. They both see pocket time. My HEST came perfect out of the box, with a minimal break in period. I'd recommend it.

im not trying to put down the xm-18 in anyway. as for ZT i love my 0300 that sees pocket time everyday and its side kick knife changes depending on my daily duties. the xm-18 is a wonderful knife but to me it doesn't "scream" buy me the same way the HEST does. so i think i will take the dive after having a good conversation with DPx gear customer service. because if anything goes wrong with the knife they will cover it under normal wear, which me personally don't abuse my "newest" knife so i have time to see if the lock fails. who knows maybe it it fails and its replacement fails under crazy conditions ill machine up a stainless steel lock bar nub like the SR-1 line
