Should I Buy a ZT 0561 or Southard Flipper

I know the southard flipper isn't out yet but what are your thoughts. Did anybody find the blade length at Blade Show for the Southard? If its over 3.75 I won't buy it (it's for EDC).

I believe the southard flipper is 3.25", and that's the one I'll be waiting for. The 0560 is just too big for me to justify carrying every day.

The Southard will definitely be easier to EDC on a regular basis. But I still like the look of the ZT 0560/0561 better...

With that blade length, it'll be shorter, but its handles in the Eric Glessler video with it looked pretty thick/blocky. I wouldn't be surprised if it's thicker.

Love my 0560, its honestly my favorite folder that I've ever owned. That being said, I haven't yet held the Southard, so I can't compare the 2 head to head. I will definitely be buying one though, no doubt .Also, for what its worth, I EDC my 0560 every day, & don't find it too big it all. For me, its perfect!

It will without a doubt be somewhat thick. As far as I've heard the ball bearing system knives (IKBS, KVT, whatever spyderco decides to call their's) need to be somewhat thicker than the standard bushing or washer knives because the washers that hold the ball bearings are relatively thick and the scales or liners must be thick enough to accommodate being milled out.

Personally, I would go for the 0561. It appeals to me more aesthetically, I like larger folders and, while I'm fine with foreign built knives, it's always nice to keep my money in the States. That being said, the Southard still sounds like a great knife. I doubt you could go wrong either way.

I'm only going off the video, but it looks way thicker than a 0560, which also has a ball bearing system.

Is there a video with both the Southard and the 0560 shown next to each other? If so I'd love to see it. If not, keep in mind the Southard is a much smaller knife lengthwise than the 0560, so they could be identical thickness and the Southard will look thicker because it is shorter. It won't be a super thin knife, that's for sure, but I doubt the thickness is going to be an issue for most people.

Different animals. I was fondling the southard flipper while talking with brad at the show. Its a great little edc. Zt is all meat and grit.

Both great little creatures.

Nope, none next to each other. I wish :)

Looking at:

the liner, g10, and ril side each separately look a lot thicker than the 0560

Here's a 0550's spine shot for (mediocre/poor) comparison:

I have a 550 ZT. Nice knife; a bit large for my light-duty EDC.

I have a Brad Southard on pre-order. I think I'll love it. 4th Qtr, 2012 release, at least of pre-orders.
It appears to be the size of a Spydie Paramilitary 2; no longer than that. Appears to be blade-length of 3.5" or less.

Here is the YouTube link.

I'd suggest you get the ZT NOW. You won't be able to buy the Southard for at least 9-12 months unless you're on a preorder list. So buy the ZT; enjoy it, and if you need to, you can sell it for about what you paid and then buy the Brad Southard.
