Should I buy an Ed Cope Custom?

Here she is. I like the Damascus. I like the blade shape. I like the handle’s dimensions. I like the titanium’s finish. I don’t like the price but I want a quality custom and understand that a good one will cost me.

At first I was leaning towards some sort of fast flipper, but I realized that you don’t need to shell out crazy money to get a toy to open and close. Although those Curtiss knives are such snappy openers....

But I think this is a more refined choice. Anyone have an Ed Cope? Am I being dumb by even considering a knife this pricy?

I don't have an Ed Cope, but I have approx 55 knives worth over $15,000.

Expecting a Neill Schutte 8 inch dagger for around $850+ in less than two weeks. Have on order a Randall Knives Model 13, 12 inch toothpick, and it is around $900.

If the knife thrills you, go for it!

I agree with the others. If you can afford it and like it, go for it.

If you like that design, you can always do some more research and see if you can a similar knife for less $. Be warned, you will be going down the rabbit hole.

Knives like that are way out of my budget and I rarely stray over $150 so I can't relate.

That's a lot of money but it is a nice knife. I would probably just get one or two knives custom made for that amount.

Edit: looking at it more, it does seem expensive for what it is.

No way. Seems damn expensive for what looks like a nice production knife on par with a CRK.

For that money, I'd rather have a CRK and something else or have a true custom made.

Every component of this knife is created and assembled by one dude. How is that “on par” with a CRK?

Edit: I’ve never liked the look of anything Chris Reeve’s done, so I think that’s a poor comparison.

If you have to ask about it, then you really don't want the knife. If you're seeking approval, you're asking the wrong people.
You're the only one that can justify the purchase. You've been here long enough to have read the threads of diminishing value buying knives.
Personally, if I want to buy a knife regardless of the price, I do understand what I'm getting myself in to, meaning that down the road, the knife may not be worth what I paid for it. But, I'm in it for the hobby and fun of having knives of all price ranges. If it was about the money, I'd have only one knife and only buy another when that one broke. I do have knives that I'll never use, that's the collector part of me, the others see duty. And yes, I do have expensive knives that are users.

At the end of the day, if owning that gorgeous knife brings a smile to your face and you enjoy using it, reward yourself and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

All of that ^^^

It's a titanium frame lock with a Damascus steel.... That seems like a pretty good place to start a comparison to me.

If the question is: I want to buy knife X, how is your experience with the company/maker, it would be obviously different.

My personal opinion, with me being a ZT Fan as well ;), I wouldn't drop 1500 on that knife, in part because I am not big on Damascus. I would rather buy some disconcontinued LE ZT's with that money, like a 0777/0999.

There are a lot of choices out there in that price range. Don't be hasty. Patience will get you the best choice. That said, I was saving for a Thorburn and came across a minty Microtech LCC at a great price. I'm not sorry I got it by any means, but the knife I was originally looking to buy is now a ways down the road. Also need to consider re-sale down the road for your next grail.

Oh I do really want it, that’s the problem.

Buy it cos you like it, not because it had an approval from the nutjobs of this forum.
And use it with a grin on your face :)
It's a nice knife IMO, but for the same price I'd get a Les George.
