As a follow up to the trolling for schrades, I was at the local hardware store last night. I just bought a sharpfinger from them and they have a couple left, as well as a guthook hunter, a fillet knife and a big old uncle henry folder.

I've already got the sharpfinger, but for 19.95 I might get another. But the other ones seemed a little pricy. The uncle henry folder was 40 bucks, which I thought was a little high. they also have an old display case.

What are good prices for some of these basic Shrades? They also had a 3 bladed stockman for 19.95.

Hello Shann..........yup I would suggest that you buy Schrades...they are good value for the money. :D
As far as pricing goes.... ....check the internet at such places as Ebay,Smokey Mountain etc to compare prices.
Welcome to the Schrade forum...........

I wonder whats going to show up after the auction this week! Could be some interesting mutts and unbelievable pedagrees that find their way to the markets. Keep your eyes open.

Irv what day is the auction?
Do you think that Ebay will have some of the knives from Schrade on sale?

Kap,
The information I have shows the auction will go for 3 days with the knife collections being sold on the 28th and the bigger equipment going day 1 and 2. Im sure tons will make it to ebay and probably fairly shortly.

My question is: Will there be a large influx of schrades onto the market which will drive the buying prices down? Or will there be a six month feeding frenzy like I have been seeing for the past month or so driving prices further up?

I don't buy for resale or playing the collector market, but would like to be able to afford a couple of nice pieces for the wall. I am still finding a few bargains, both on the net and in stores, but the choicer pieces, i.e. limited editions, are going through the roof! I'm not even talking the old stuff either... less than twenty years old (relatively new to an old codger like me).

All indicators show that there will probably be a feeding frenzy now while prices haven't caught up to their closing, and it will be all uphill from there.. Since they are out of business, and Smokey has bought what's left, hopefully we will see some good buys coming from them, but as far as the limited editions and collectibles, unless you can get a deal on e-bay, I have a feeling those prices will go UP UP UP!

So..... it would be wise to acquire now the pieces I can find? Even tho I feel like the prices are high, they are just a prelude to what is to come?

My own particular interest is in the 165's and the commemoratives, limited editions of it. Was there a reissue after the end of production, just like with the 49'ers? Would SMKW be likely to have acquired a stock of these from the plant?

P.S. Glad to have your input... when are you going to write that book on Schrade history? Put me on the top of the list to buy one!
