should i buy the surefire alpha?

has anyone picked this up? i havent heard anything really definitive on this. i read a review here a while back on it and im kind of concerned about it being primarily a flipper knife (which i dont care for). im looking for a large folder. so what do you guys think? is it worth it?

I don't think that it is worth it for $300, but I bought mine for $200 and it is definately worth it.

It locks up solid with no play and it fits my hand very well. I did not like the double clips so I removed one side. Mine is a very solid knife and well thought out.

Yes, it's definitely a flipper, that is one of the only things that I don't like about the knife. It's difficult to open the knife with only the thumbstud, as the stud is also the blade stop in both the open and closed positions. As such, the stud rests on the handle when the knife is closed and is about as long as the handle is thick so it is not possible to get a thumb under it. The best you can do is to push against the top of the stud and push the blade out, but that will only work if the pivot is on the loose side.

As for the extra clip, I didn't like that either, so I had this made:

It works well, and is a nice addition to my Gen I Alpha (S/N 0021) which is in my EDC rotation.

i like the alpha, a great knife imho, am gonna get one soon, handled one at the gunshow, i agree get a deal on it, $200 to $250 is a deal,
