I accidently came across a gerber prodigy COYOTE for sale on this website in Australia (where I live) and I've already been looking for a Gerber prodigy. The combo comes with a Gerber prodigy coyote with original sheath in coyote brown and comes with a custom sheath to fit the prodigy. It comes in khaki, auscam and multicam (you get to pick) all for $119 AU. Put in mind that I found the prodigy coyote on sale on ebay in australian dollars for about 120 dollars on its own (second hand) and the fact that its brand new and the coyote brown is only aloud to military personnel I think its a bonus. Should I go for it? Your opinions mean alot to me, thanks in advance! ;)

P.S: I have found the original prodigy for over $120 dollars AU online so I think its a pretty good deal.

It sounds like you already know what you want to do. Just get it and be happy!

I know it can be expensive and hard to get knives in your country so take what I say next with a grain of salt. Here, state side, $96 for a gerber prodigy is an outrageous price. They are about $48 here. That said, they are not bad knives. 420hc isn't great but is serviceable. The serrations aren't overly aggressive. The sheath is quite functional. I have 2 of them that live in go bags.

Prices adjusted to reflect Australian dollar equivalent (if I did my math right).

Dudethat....if you have shopped around within your budget and that is the knife out of all of them that you want most then buy it. Be sure you have looked at other knives for that money.

Yup. Particularly if it's a Gerber. Hey, the guy asked for my opinion.

I will never get hating on something just based on brand. I try to look at the actual merits of the item. Yes, brand can tell you a lot about a product but it is not the end all. Myopic brand elitist opinion helps no one.

Well, after "myopic" and "elitist", I suppose "hater" will be next on your list of personal insults.

Guy asked for my opinion, and I gave it without name calling. I can't, in good conscience, recommend a Gerber.

He's free to ignore my opinion...though then I wonder why he would ask for it.

If you don't want my opinion, I don't know what to tell you other than "too bad."

If you will kindly reread what I said you will notice I didn't call anyone any names. Rather, that single viewed brand hatred is not a good way to evaluate anything. Why not look at the merits of the knife rather than dismissing it based on personal bias?

I agree with you most of the time but not on this. No the knife isn't great, and certainly not at the price the OP is considering. But to dismiss something just because of brand and not look at any of the particulars is not what I would do. I pointed it out in you post and stated why. That is my opinion. Don't like it? Too bad:D
