So I decided to purchase a BK-9 for my own collection to put on my display (I have another one for hard use) but the one I received had a few flaws.

Some of the coating was scratched off the bottom when I got it.

One side of the knife wasn't sharpened all the way down.

I know they are kind of tedious things but just wanted the Beckerheads' opinion. Am I being too nit picky? Or should I go ahead and contact customer service for a better knife?

Are you happy with it? Cause Kabar stands behind it's stuff, and that is the bottom line. If not, give 'em a ring.

2 points I'll make

1) If you're not happy, call Kabar, and let them know about your issues.

2)BKT's aren't made to be safe queens, if that is what you are wanting, by all means, let them know when you call, that you plan to put it up, and save it. Toooj has been know to search the warehouse for folks. Not saying he'll do it this time, but, its been know to happen.

I look at BKT's from a user perspective, and all the things you've shown, wouldn't slow me down in the slightest. I am concerned about the grind though.

If it wasn't for my display case then I usually wouldn't mind and just use the tar out of it. But since its going in my display I'm a bit more nitpicky. Lord knows I have way too many Becker Knives.

I definitely see your point. I guess the whole reason why I asked because I know they have good products and good people behind them. I don't want to trouble the Ka-bar guys over some little flaws. I love their products and wanted to put them up for display...the scratch on the bottom doesn't really bother me as much as the grind on the bottom. Either way I just don't want to trouble them for no "real" reason.

well, you could buy a sarong, just not purple :)

it's a good start :)

honestly, you're not happy with it. the grind alone would disturb me somewhat. don't know why folx aren't saying these aren't safe queens. almost all of the KaBar stuff i've gotten is flawless. i expect the best :)

Only one bk5?????
J/K!
Have KaBar give you another, if you don't, then you will be ticked off for good about it. Its what I call a "Friday Knife": the finisher was in a hurry to go home for the weekend, and didnt give proper attention to it.

I know right!? and not even a BK3. I must be slacking :P. I went ahead and sent it in. Hopefully I'll get another BK9 with a better grind. Because if one BK9 is good two must be great! Its starting to become one of my favorites. Its a beast at chopping.
