Should I do it.

I like my Caly3 Carbon Fiber ZDP189, but I never use it, it just sits in my safe and I take it out once in a while and I just bought a new knife and I was thinking about selling it, but it would be for a small loss. I am not sure if I want to do it. I use all of my knives, but the fit and finish and cost of this one thwarts me for some reason, but I do love the knife. I was just wondering if I could see what someone else would do. Thanks guys.

smoakie,

I had the exact same feelings about my Caly3.5 Carbon Fiber ZDP189. I finally decided I didn't buy it to sit in a drawer, so I started carrying it.

I get 100x the joy in using it as I did just "owning" it. It doesn't have any real scratches yet, but when it does I'll just shrug and say "Hey, it's a knife".

That's what I said when my first new truck got it's first scratches. After that, I had more fun because I wasn't worried about scratching it.

It's too good a knife not to use. :D

I would use it. I've been using mine for years and it looks new. There isn't much to dirty. The softer outter steel gets micro scratches from abrasive things like cardboard and such, but you can't see them unless youre angling it just perfect in the light. Great knife to use though, don't let it go to waste!

I know what you mean, when i get a new knife, its hard for me to use, but once i use it that mind set all goes away and enjoy using it more, and scratches scuffs... gives it character

I EDC EVERY knife that I buy. I'd keep it and use it. I personally think that 'Safe Queens' are a total waste, and an implied insult to the manufacturer. A knife is first and formost a tool, not an Object d'art.

They are not "scratches", they are "scars".

I am a automotive technician and I just don't want to lose it or mess it up at work, I would be pissed. When I carry it, it is usually out of work, but I always find myself with the Para2...love that knife! Maybe I should carry the Caly3 as a sheeple friendly knife with the Para2.

I carried my sebenza in the shop! And my griptilian. those two knives were the only ones to be carried in shop;

Pretty unanimous in agreement that you should use it. It would seem a particular waste of such a good steel too. I mean if you aren't going to use it, or only intend it for really light tasks why get such a robust (costly) steel.

I do understand that a pristine new knife is a thing of beauty (to us!) but so too is a well used and appreciated tool. I know we're talking about a Spyderco here but Bob Loveless is on record as defining knives as "users" or "wall-hangers." And he proudly focused on making 'users' for people to actually use (despite the costs his knives now demand)...

...no better advice from a real knife artisan.

:)

I wouldn't sell it. I would carry it. The handle is the same size as a Kershaw Leek, which is a very slim pocketknife. I love my Caly3 ZDP and would not get rid of it. BTW, it fits behind the front of my waistband (yes, front) and I never know it is there. It's deep carry is hidden by my belt. It also fits in the watch pocket of my jeans. This is a nice knife.
