After trying out one of my new Queen D2 copperhead I felt like the blade does not cut like some of my other knives. I got the edge down to about 15 degrees per side, but it still feels a little thich. After reading on the forums that Mike from BRK&T will convex a blade,I gave him a call. I just got off the phone with Mike and he informed me it would be $20 for him to Convex the Queen. For some reason I thought it was around $10, and I was happy to send it in for that. Is it worth $20 to have Mike convex the blade? Thanks for any input.

Thanks,
John

I have PM'd Mike on Jerzeedevil about redoing my Swamp Rats with coated blades, and my Ontario RAT3. I have also gone to a local maker that I bought from many times, and have paid for him to put a convex edge on. I am acquiring the funds, but am having a hard time deciding between the two, just because their work is so good. For a larger folder or fixed blade, I would send it to him. But thats me.

One thing you can be sure of, Mike is not overcharging (I have no idea of his cost), he customizes for his love of the hobby and community.

If that $20.00 is also covering postage back to you, then HECK yeah it's worth it.

After he gets done, you will have a knfie that will really cut like crazy!

That sounds like a great price to me, Krein charges $35.00 for a 3 to 4inch blade.

From my admittedly limited experience with Queen D2, the blade really needs to be reground, not just re-edged. I have reprofiled the clip blades on my stockman and whittler to where they cut pretty good, but the blade behind the bevel is still too thick to suit me. I may sacrifice the etch and thin the blades out yet ;)

This is what I am talking about.

Thanks guys for the input. I will get it shipped out in the morning. I just hope it cuts like my barkie when it comes back. To be honest, I think my upland special is the sharpest knife I own.

Thanks again for all the help,
John

Well I just got back from getting the Queen in the mail. While talking with Mike he said he had a Queen folder in his pocket as we spoke. I was happy to hear that the man who makes Barkies, carried a Queen D2 folder (maybe because he has not finished his folder). Those barkies are just sooo sharp with the convex grind, I just hope the Queen will be as sharp. Mike said it should not take too long for him to get the knife back to me, so I will inform everyone how it turns out. Has anyone ever did this with one of there Queens?

Thanks for the help,
John

All I can say is that the 4 Barkies I own ARE the sharpest blades in my pack!

I'm interested in this because I am waiting for my first D2 Queen from Cumberlandknifeworks, maybe it will have to go straight to BRKT (all the way from Finland:eek: )

Here's an idea: Everyone who wants a Queen D2 knife should call up their dealer (or Queen directly) and ask them to send the knives to this guy first so he could sharpen them. Maybe Queen will pick up on the idea that people actually want knives sharp when they buy them.
