Should I get a "Barry H" treatment on my Sebenza?

***So much for this, I sold it***Should I hang onto my Large Classic Sebenza with a Mayo/Krein job and add a Barry H sculpting job to it?

I'm gonna do it as soon as I get enough scratch together. Unexpected expenses keep cropping up that keep putting it off, and I'm trying my hardest to be fiscally responsible (won't last long ;)).

I spoke with Barry a few weeks ago on the phone regarding his work. He knows his stuff, uses only the highest quality materials, and is a true Gent and nice person to talk with to boot.

Go for it!

IMO (and others may beg to differ) I think the original handles are best. Sculpting looks nice, but it doesn't appeal to me at all.

Neither do the Mayo holes though.

IMO, they offer a lot of practicality. They are colorful (orange being a good choice for us who tramp through the woods a bunch), the scupting adds grippiness, they lighten the knife overall, and according to Barry, they are plenty stiff and compromise structural integrity in no way, shape, or form.

For me, they will allow me to put some CGG's into my user rotation without boogering up the graphic-side slabs.

The Barry H scales look great. But I like the holes. They're a Mayo signature.

Personally I am not a fan of the Mayo holes. However I think the sculpted scales look really good.

Perhaps I'm confused. When the Barry H scales are installed, will they ADD something to the Mayo/Krein job or REPLACE something on the Mayo/Krein job? I mean, if the "Mayo" part of the Mayo/Krein job is the modified handle and the OEM handle with Barry H sculpting is used instead, wouldn't the "Mayo" part go away?

I think he means sculpting the existing Mayo Ti scales not adding a new G-10 scale.

i say sure. its pretty sweet. and barry seems to be on top of the situation. his frame mods are very cool.

I've never really cared for the Mayo holes...

I love Barry's work, would love to try it out someday - but for me, the original is still the best...

I agree, the plain slabs are Great, but isn't part of collecting Sebenzas is to have different ones. Or do you go buy 5 large plain 21's and 5 small plain 21's and compare them to each other?

Got it. I really like the look of the sculpting on the OEM scales, but I wonder if adding sculpting to the Mayo-modded scales wouldn't end up making them look too busy? Guess there's only one way to find out. ;)

My friend's good-looking older sister works at Nike. She always used to say, "Just Do It".

I agree. I'm not a big fan of after market mods.

I do like the inlays though. The best mods, in my opinion, are swedge, double silver thumb lug and spacer, and reversed screws.

I would leave the Mayo Slabs how they are and get another Sebenza to modify!

I LOVE the Lightening Holes mayo incorporates into his knives. Not to mention his work is limited and highly sought after by a handful of people. I think adding the texture with the holes might be too much, in my opinion of course.

I LOVE the looks of Barry's work, but would not combine his work with Mayo's personally.
