Should I get a Benchmade Apparition?

I'm not much of a Benchmade fan, nothing against them, but their designs just don't do it for me. Before you ding me with negative rep points, read on. I have become fixated on the Benchmade Apparition, I like the fact that you can change it from an assisted opener to a regular liner lock with the removal of a pin, and I really like the design of it. It looks beefier than most of the assisted openers I've seen, and I would like to buy one. Before I do, since this is such a big purchase, I would like to know if anyone has tested this knife. I realize that this is a pre order, but I've noticed that a lot of knife magazine writers are members here. Just from the pics, I wanna buy one, I have the "have to have it nows". Any help is appreciated.

My advice is never buy a knife on preorder because 1) it will have "bugs" initially and 2) the price will fall after it has been out a while, (including picking one up used from someone that didn't wait) 3) In a few more weeks you'll probably find something you'll like more. 4) Assisted opening is just a novelty, not worth paying for.

Get me one too! If I didn't have two Dominators, I'd get one myself.

Bye the bye NelsonMC, love your signature. By now, I estimate my overall blood loss due to knives and axes in the quarts.

Hope the novelty doesn't go away, I like them.

Haha thanks -- If you look through my threads you will find the one with the story behind my signature. I've probably lost gallons of blood, most of which not related to knives. My bestfriend (god rest his soul) years ago threw me through a double pane sliding glass door. They took a foot a glass outta my back that day, lost massive amounts of blood. Then a few months later I kept feeling a stabbing pain when I would sit down, well the bastids left a 3" piece in me, had to have surgery to get that removed heh. Then a few years later me and the same guy were on the back of a truck, jumping from the bed to another cars hood and I fell off, hit my head on the lugnuts, cracked my skull wide open, lots of blood lose there too. Ah fun times, yep.

Sorry for the seriously OT post! forgive me.

Man, I don't know who's the villian....your best friend(hope you weren't the one to do him in), your idiot surgeon, or yourself for your evident self destructive ways.

Pardon me, too

I'm with you. I want an Apparrition soooo bad, but I'm waiting. The few I've seen have been for straight retail, some even higher. I'm too cheeeeep to pay full price!! :D

We've had a few come through the store. They are pretty nice, although I don't like the scales that much. The picture from the catalog is airbrushed. I suppose it's okay if you really like assisted openers, but it just operates so smoothly without the pin. The lock up is incredible. You can hear it so plainly as it engages. Wonderful.
As for me, I probably won't buy it. Although if I happen to recieve one as a gift, I'll probably replace the scales with real bone.

It does. It's a fun new toy that after awhile just isn't as fun anymore. I still get out my Flash II and play with it from time to time, but it's just not as satisfying.

But I do like the looks of this Benchmade. I'm not a big BM fan, but this one looks like something I could see myself carrying.

Maybe not fun but I still like my Kershaws (with assisted opening) I bought many years ago..
