Should I get a Cold Steel?

After all the bad things I have heard about CS's kraton handles I must say that I am starting to question my choice to get a cold steel bush ranger. Is there any other knife in that price range that would be as good or better than the cs with a better handle??? Please ket me know. Thanks.

I've never had any problems with CS kraton handles.. tanto, MH, SRK. IMHO they provide a superior grip under field conditions, especially when cold/greasy/bloody, or when working with gloved hands. Micarta and stag, wood are nice but I question whether they're any better in function.

Hi, Ed I haven't had trouble with my Kraton SRK handle either but the Trailmaster one is loose on the tang like an old sock.
Any experience with CS's garantuee concerning kraton handles ?? Hope to hear from you, Helen.
PS Yes women can also handle big knives

Helen:
I would assume a loose Kraton on the handle would qualify as a material defect under Cold Steel's warranty, as long as it's within the 5 years of buying it.

I don't know how it would be done exactly, but might Super Glue be able to fix that (it might dry too quickly, though)?

I've not had a problem with my TrailMasters handle or the SRK I had or the Recon Tanto, or Master Hunter and I agree that they do have a nice grip if your hands become wet or slippery for some reason.

One other knife in that size might just be the Fallkniven series but they also have that type of handle material.

Hmmmm...Mike Irie has a nice line of stag handle smaller type knives in a wide variety of blade shapes, the stag does seem to have a good grip surface if it's left natural and not polished down too smooth.

I use various Cold Steel Knives excessively, and never have problems with the handles either. I think those who have the problems, are people who use the knife almost 2 hours straight, and the balde slips out of their hand due to sweat. If that's the bigggest drawback, I woldn't worry at all...

I think the Cold Steel Bush Ranger is a really good knife for the money. I'm not a big fan of Cold Steel products but the Bush Ranger I've had for over a year has held up really well, no problems with the handle. The Carbon V holds a pretty good edge. You could do lots worse for more money.
