Should I get a Delica

Really been enjoying carrying a Spyderco lately. Specifically my K390 Paramilitary 2. I've got a couple of other Spyderco's on the way but I'm wanting a lightweight knife for gym shorts around the house. I've used a Bugout for this in the past but I'm not crazy about it lately.
The Delica is a classic and I keep thinking it's a knife I should have in the collection. Here are the others I'm considering:

Para 3 LW (love the compression lock)
Native
Manix LW

If I do go with the Delica the question then is what steel?

VG-10
Hap40
M390

Get the M390 Delica. Mine is a fantastic cutter! I usually alternate among my many Delicas for EDC and often carry a VG10 version as well.

I carried a Bugout for a while when it first released, but the axis lock wasn't "doing it" for me and the S30V steel wasn't either for that matter.

I’d go with the para 3 in ctsbd1n.

I used to own a Delica, but that was before I stepped up to the Pm2 and para 3. I think the lw para 3 carried better than the delica due to the wire clip, which I love.

So in short: if you’re on a budget go with a delica. If not, a lw para 3 or lw native. I own an M390 lw para 3 and it’s never leaving the collection... it’s my go to gym shorts knife and for office carry/dress slacks too.

The Delica is great, especially for a medium-small knife. In it's size class, it dominates.

For gym shorts, especially while active, consider the even smaller Dragonfly. I removed the clip on both of mine and carry them deep pocket.

There will be a K390 Dragonfly and Delica soon.

I'm looking forward to adding a K390 Delica 4 to the two VG10 Delicas that I currently have (one wharnie and another regular). Hesitated for quite some time whether I should get a M390 or S90V one but once Spyderco made the announcement that a K390 version would be produced, it became an easy decision for me. Plus, the FRN color of the K390 version appears to be the best to me.

Another vote for the M390 Delica, or any other Delica. As you say the are as classy as they get. Original too.

I don't like any of your three alternatives, especially the Para 3 Lw. I sold mine as they will always have some side to side bladeplay(believe me, I REALLY tried) due to the one only washer.

Get a Delica.

If you want to try a delica and a para 3 why not get a Watu?

it’s in the same size range has a compression lock has a 20CV blade and is supposed to be very spicy.

For use in gym shorts, I suggest the delica definitely. It rides the best and has a better closing bias than a compression lock. Which I think is pretty important when wearing gym shorts. IWB or not. I personally carry an Endura, IWB when wearing gym shorts. But I like a longer blade.

Native is a little more money, but that would be my second choice.

They are all great choices, depending on what you prefer.

The VG-10 used in the Delica in my experience has proven to be resilient to chipping and rolling. It sharpens and polishes very easily.

It sounds like you should probably get a Delica.

For gym shorts though, I generally carry the Urban iwb. Sometimes I'll switch it up with a UKPK or Chaparral lw.

Spicey indeed! :)

I'm not typically a CF kind of guy.

To reply to this thread - I def. want to get a Delica although I prefer the compression. I decided to do an experiment last night when I got a regular para 3 in the mail. It carried fine in my gym shorts but like some others have said the wire clip will lend better to that type of carry. I picked up a Para 3 lw for this. Plan to get a Delica in K390 possibly when they hit the shelves.

having Dragonfly 2, Chaparral LW, Native Salt (LW) and Salt 2 of the Spyderco's mentioned above, the DF2 is my go-to shorts/workout/fast&light carry.
Disappears in the pocket. Can't motivate myself to carry anything bigger unless I know I'll be needing a knife for something specific.

A K390 Delica will be in my future as well. For now though this Watu is what’s up. I almost tempted with a pun there but restrained myself.
