Hey guys. So I generally don't go for thicker knives. And when I originally saw the Fallkniven F1, nothing particularly stood out about it. But the more I've seen it and read about it, the more intriguing its become. Now I know these are pricey, but I also have a lot of gift cards to amazon from the holidays. Should I go for it, or go for another Battle Horse Knife or semi-custom? I know there are some Fallkniven lovers out there. Sell it to me.

The laminated steel and construction are tops - it's a compact survival knife originally designed to be used by military pilots. Meant to be easily placed in a side pocket. The issue I have with mine is the handle feels a little thin, enough for me to to wonder if it would be fatiguing to hold over long periods. If that's the case, the A1 or H1 might be a better choice. I ended up liking my benchmade bushcrafter better.

The handle is a little thin towards the bottom, but despite that I still find it comfortable (I wear a large glove). The F1 is a very capable knife that is both compact, and fairly light weight. It wouldn't be my first choice for carving a canoe paddle, but it is a great all around camping/hiking blade.

Thanks for the input. I'm still considering it, but what would you guys suggest otherwise? Keep in mind that I have about $100 in gift card to amazon so it would have to be limited to what I can get there. So they have some fallkniven, tops, esee (but I don't like choils), helle, kellam, and some battle horse knives. I already have moras.

i had an f1 with the regular handles and i got rid of it, but i got big ole hands. then i found one with micarta scales and my god is it a beautiful knife. recently i got a spyderco bushcraft if they got one on amazon get that most ergonomic handles i have felt yet

I know he is kind of taboo around here, but the dude who used to destroy knives in toughness tests clamped the laminated falkniven into a vice and stood on it. One layer popped when he started bouncing (if I remember correctly), so you don't have to worry. They are stinkin' tough blades.

For that budget, how about a Helle eggen, or for around $24 more a Helle Harding (which would be my choice). They may not be like the thicker survival knives being marketed today, but I'll wager cutting ability is the more useful feature instead of being able to handle unlikely lateral forces :D

I have two F1's, one with fulltang VG-10 and one hiddentang in 3G.
Both are great knives!

The laminated steel works very well and I think the regular VG-10 is so good, that the upgrade to 3G is more of a luxury thing.
Don't get me wrong here, the 3G steel is outstanding, but the VG-10 is really good for half the price of 3G.

I say Go For It!

Seriously? Nothing?

The reason for so few answers must be, that the Fällkniven people are all out & busy using their F1's!:D:thumbup:
I myself just got home from a day at the lake and just saw this post.

I carried my custom F1 3G and a GEC #42 Lockback.
I didn't get any fish myself, but the guy's around me had better luck.

The standard rubber handle works perfectly well in my medium size hands, but I like stag and rehandled my F1 because I had the stag.

Normally I would use the stag F2 in my avatar, but I felt for using the F1 today.
Otherwise I carry this F1 daily at my work as a mobile kitchen carpenter.
It's a Great User!!

Fällkniven is solid, grade A quality.

A mora will probably get the job done too though.

How do you want to spend your money?
