Should I get a Shallot CB ZDP-189 or S110V? I am leaning toward the S110V. They are the same price. I have heard the ZDP-189 is more likely to rust and stain. The sweat in my pocket is sometimes a concern for me with my current ZDP knife, although it has never rusted. I mostly cut thin nylon rope and fruits and vegetables with my knife. I like the Shallot because it is thin and small long enough for my tastes. I like both those steels because I like being able to go a long time before sharpening.

The ZDP Shallot is what you will want. It's much thinner and a wicked slicer.

I have both, and after using them for the past week, I think the ZDP is a tad sharper. She slices like theres not tomorrow. BUT, as far as edge retention I can't say. The S110V is definately not a slouch! I say buy one of each and see which you like better ;)

I prefer the composite ZDP blade myself.

GET BOTH!!!!!!! totally different takes on the same design. and limited. definitely both. combined they go around for what one TIZDP mini cyclone does (or did). great bargains

I got both, (and a ZT0200, and an Offset... Ohh I can't wait for the package).

If you were only to get one, I'd take the CPM S110V, as it's the first use of the steel, ever. ZDP-189, while not common, is available in other knives.
If aesthetics are important, the composit blade looks fantastic.

In the end they're both some of the best knives you could possibly get (regardless of price).

By thinner, do you mean the thickness of the blade or the handle, or both? I like both of those very thin.

I saw here that the handle of the standard Shallot is less than 1 mm thicker than the standard Leak, and the handle of the CB ZDP-189 Shallot was the same thickness as the standard Leak.

Anybody know the handle thickness of the handle of a S110V Shallot? Thanks.

110V:

Measured underneath:

Liner lock: .0985
Front scale: .0985

Total thickness (assembled, blade included): .351 at the pivot (clip not included)

Grey, trust me, you want the ZDP. I have both, the ZDP is nice and thin in all regards. The S110V is thicker on both sides, and much heavier.

i only know about the zdp cb, and apart from rave reviews you've already heard... I have to remind myself constantly that the thing is clipped to my pocket. given the length of this knife, that's amazing. any thinner or lighter, and it would arguably not exist.

which dealer should I contact for the ZDP or S110V shallots? thanks...
