Should I get the BK16 or 17?

I think one of these two knives will be my dedicated hunting knife to field dress deer and elk.

are there any advantages to a clip point or drop point?

Clip point is nice for precise cuts into the hide. Drop point is more versatile for other chores imo. I don't own a BK-17 so take it for what it's worth. Love the 16 though.

I agree with this... clip point tip is more precise like mentioned, drop point tip is more durable.

as far as the curve of the blade goes, are they the same? Ive heard of people reprofiling the bk16 so the belly is not as round

Either will work nicely. Theoretically the point on the BK-16 will be stronger than the BK-17. You won't break a BK-17 under normal use. If you like "pointy", get the BK-17. When I was younger, I would have chosen the BK-17 because I was more used to a clip point. As I get older, I tend to lean toward a drop point style in the BK-16. There must be a reason why they make so many drop points for hunting applications.

I'm going to be contrarian and suggest the BK-15. The trailing point is as good as the clip point for precision work and the blade has a little more reach to it for blind cuts if you have the skills.
