Should I get the Random task or the Boa

Depends really on your intent of use I would figure. Due to the drastic differnces in blade types I think you should make that your deciding factor. Other factors to consider is weight/handle material, aluminum gets really cold at winter outdoors. If your main use is going to be cutting things like boxes and packages open I would recommend the random task. If you're going to do more sliceing, game, then I'd recommend the Boa. If you want a cool knife thats tough, the Boa is safer to learn, just don't take off the black plastic thingy on the RandomTask untill you've mastered the opening technique. The ONLY negative thing I can say is that my cop friend told me that HE would consider the Boa a auto knife and confiscate it, but only after seeing the finger flipper in action. Don't worry he didn't take mine. Just that it is a lot of fun to play with and if observed by a Police Officer, it might be taken a way. BTW he didn't think that it was an auto opened by the thumb stud. I guess my real recommendation could be made by what I've done, I've bought the Boa and haven't bought the Random Task YET.

Random Task. Or, there's the Ricochet, too- which IIRC, is just the Random Task w/a different blade shape.

The Tasks have a nicer look and finish to them IMHO, while the Boa looks a bit too hillbilly for my tastes. No offense intended to anyone in particular. I just have this mental image of a sweaty, pot-bellied, Nascar shirt wearing good ol' boy swinging around a Boa, hooting and hollering "Now this thing'll cut! Nee-haw!

I'm sure there both very well made, but I'd opt for the Random Task. That flipper on the Boa just looks like trouble.

I agree that usage should determine which one you buy. I love my Boa, but it is larger and "meaner" looking than the Random Task.

I think the reasons I prefer the Boa are:
1) I like the larger size.

2) The finger guard makes me feel more secure when bearing down hard on the point or thrusting.
3) I prefer the balance of the Boa. Those aluminum scales make it a lot less blade-heavy.

It mostly comes down to ergonomics and no two people are going to feel the same way about that.
