Should I get this?

I spotted a bench sander at a local pawn today. It's the Crafytsman 4" sander and looks to be in good shape (this place has a no questions asked return policy for 30 days).
I know it's far from ideal, but for $50 (maybe I can negotiate it down) would it be worth getting to do a few small flat ground knives in D-2?

The price is right and with a 1/4" shim bolted on to the table platen to give the belt some height above the flat it should do the job.
