Should I go "small"

I have been a Large Sebenza kind of guy. I have always like the 3.5 " blade knife. Anything bigger is too big and anything smaller seems too small and my pinky finger is hanging off the back of the handle. I am about an average size guy and lately been considering buying a small because I cant seem to find what I want in a large. Its really hard to gage size based on photos and of course there is no where around where I live where I can hold one in my hand. Any of you guy who own both have have any opinions on the size of the small, does it seem too small in the hand?

what I really want right now is a large plain handle Sebenza with a raindrop Damascus blade. I don't want inlays because I want the blade to be the focal point of the knife's beauty. I don't know why its so hard to find a large plain in Damascus but haven't been able to find one anywhere. The smalls seem to be easier to find in several different configurations I have been looking for.

DEPENDS ON YOUR HAND!
I have small hand and the small fits just right. I could see a larger hand would work as well on this knife especially the linen Micarta one.

This.

Unless you have very large hands, the small should fit fine. I've got long skinny fingers but more or less average sized hands and the small suits me just fine. Although it is decently smaller than the large, it is scaled down very proportionally. I too was looking to purchase a large plain sebenza with damascus but couldn't find it so I went with the CF small ladder damascus one instead. Have you tried contacting CRK directly? In any case, I don't think the small will be too small for you but, it'd help to gauge that if you put a shot of your large seb in your hand. Here's my small Sebenza in hand.

Hopefully someone who switches between carrying a small and a large chimes in too, so you have some first hand experience. I've only ever handled a large, never carried.

I have handled the small and large, and I found the small just too small for me. I have medium hands, and could not get a comfortable grip or opening angle. I just felt like it was just slightly too slim and short to fit my hand comfortably. I would definitely recommend handling one before buying.

I have both and use both. I have large hands (by glove standards), and the small is a bit small but works fine really. If they made a medium I'd have more mediums than large.

I have medium to large hands. I like both sizes. For EDC carry its hard to beat the small as it will ride right down in the bottom of your pocket. It 'disappears' as many have noted. I don't really like to carry the small clipped to my pocket as it feels goofy to me that way being 'small'. I carry the large clipped as it is totally uncomfortable for me riding in the bottom of my pocket. The way you prefer to carry your knife might be a deciding factor.

The small is far less threatening to deploy in a work environment, and is a stout and capable blade, so is really the wiser choice for EDC tasks. The knife lover and 'inner warrior' in me prefers the large size, but sometimes I think twice before flipping it open to cut a thread off my jeans in line at the bank. ;)

Finally in support of the small: If you tend to fidget with your blades like I do, the small is a nice size, as when it is closed you can have the whole knife in your hand and walk around without anyone really noticing. I find when I get stressed at work I will roll my small sebenza around and around in my hand as a 'stress-ball' of sorts. You can't really do this with the large. The ability to walk around with your CRK in your hand, and not looking like you have a knife is one cool thing about the small size.

Am I only only one who rolls their small sebbie around and around? Maybe I should seek help! :o

I have xxxl hands (glove measuring). The large fits my hand like the small fits most. With that being said, I truly love the small Sebbie and Mnandi as well. Yes, they are small, but they still somehow feel substantial in the hand. The proportions are perfect and appropriate. I also love how they just plop in your pocket and you never notice they are there.

Same here. I have very big hands and I don't find the Small to be too small. I do have to say that it is harder to manipulate, though. The Lg Sebenza is much easier to open. Lately, I've been exclusively carrying Large Sebbies.

OP, I recently had the same exact debate. I finally had the funds for a Sebenza. Wanted the insingo blade (my absolute favorite EDC utility blade shape). Had the hardest time choosing the size.

Long story short, After debating for weeks and scouring the web for advice, I chose the small sebenza. Upon delivery, as soon as I opened the package and opened the knife, it didn't feel like I had imagined. Granted, I didn't purchase the micarta inlayed handle. I have large hands by glove standards and couldn't get my pinkie finger to have a firm grip on the butt of the handle. Also it felt dainty to me when pocket clipped. If I worked in an office where I wore slacks daily, then it would be perfect when carried in the calfskin sheath. In closing, I've owned the small for a few days and it hasn't grown on me (pun intended). I ordered a large insingo and will sell the small in the marketplace as soon as it arrives. If I need a smaller blade in a pinch, I'll carry my manbug or an old slip joint.

I have had the large and for carry at work it's too big IMO. I have a small on the way. I wear a L-XL sized glove. I have carried everything from a Resilience, BM 710, & Military to a manbug. I can make any of them work (the man bug has a lanyard). That being said I Typically carry a Chaparral, Kiwi 4, Damascus Skyline, Benchmade Mini Striker or a BM 940. I's not cutting boxes and other stuff every day. I am an IT manager for a multinational hotel conglomerate. I work in jeans or slacks depending on my mood. The small is pretty much my wheel house for office carry. I'll pull out a bigger blade occasionally when i am in the yard working or feeling like i want a big honking knife ;) but mostly i carry something non intimidating for two reasons. First, I really don't need a 3.5-inch blade to cut a thread or open an envelope. Second, people don't even look twice when I pull out my smaller knives. To each their own. but that is why I like the idea of the small better. I'll know when it arrives next week but based on my other carry blades I can't see how I won't like it. Of course when i go to the gun range i bring the biggest blade I have in my collection at the moment, and I open that b*tch with authority LOL.

I wear large Glove size and have both large and small sebenzas for me the small feels too small, I rarely carry it. It's really a line that IMO could use a medium size.

Great point. I feel the blade length on my small insingo is more than adequate for EDC, I just think an extra 3/8" in handle length would allow a solid 4-finger grip.

If you are used to a large, then when you first hold a small, it's a little weird lol. I'm sure it's the same reversed too. I've heard some people say that when they first held a large it was humongous!
I had a good amount of smalls, but I never could get used to them as the large sebbies were more my size.

I think it's all trial and error when it comes to "which size fits".

Why would there a be a medium? Is there a medium Griptilian? Delica and Endura, no medium there. Hinderer 3.0 and 3.5 is another size pair I can think of with no medium. To each their own, but i just cant see the use case for a medium. The only line I can think of in the modern folder world that has a medium is Cold Steel but they have everything from sub 2 inch through 6 inches depending on the model.

I just purchased a small sebenza 21 and I had it for one day and now I'm taking it back for the large. Get the large so you don't have to do the same thing. I wear large to extra large gloves. Just for reference it is roughly the same size as a victorinox pioneer and about 3/8 of an inch smaller than a crkt m16 knife.

Hope this helps

small = beautiful

Go for the small.
It's a perfect city knife and not too small to handle larger tasks.
Think about the weight too: 4,7 vs 3 oz.
