Should I have bought this sword (koto wakizashi)?

I was in an antique shop the other day, and they had what they claimed to be a koto wakizashi (although they had it labeled as a tanto). The tang was pretty heavily oxidized, but it didn't seem to be a structural issue. I couldn't see a signature on the tang. The blade was mostly in good shape, but there was some corrosion on it. The rest was still shiny. The hamon was visible but not crisp, as though it had been polished too much after etching, or had just been poorly etched in the first place. There were a lot of cold closures, but the hada looked good otherwise. The overall shape and lines were very clean and graceful. They were asking $325 for it. I didn't buy it because it was a lot of money for an impulse buy. Should I go back for it? I know it's pretty much impossible to appraise from my description, but what would you pay for a blade like this?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

p.s. It was just the blade in a saya that probably wasn't designed for it (it was way longer than the blade).
