Should I keep it or send it back?

So I bought a Emerson horseman and was told I was being sent the 2013 with stand offs. I received a 2012 with a back spacer. I see they also changed the wave feature looks like they made it a bit bigger on the 2013. You guys think it is worth sending back to get the 2013 with stand offs or should I just keep the 2012 with back spacer.

One question did you buy it from Emerson directly, or another retailer? Second question is are you unhappy with the back spacer?

Now I will say I have a 2013 Vintage CQC-7 with the back spacer, and personally like it just fine. Look at a Commander over the weekend that was vintage 2014 with stand offs, and what kind of put off by the stand offs.

Think there is no god or bad, back spacer, or stand offs serve the same purpose. But get the job done, and it comes down to what you like, or get use too.

BTW I am very happy with my Seven the way it came.

I have Emersons with and without backspacers and I don't care either way. If you like everything else about the knife (action, lockup, blade grind, etc), my arrogant opinion is that you should keep it. If you really have to have standoffs, send it back and ask for a specific year with standoffs. Personally, I don't see any reason why they're better than the backspacer.

Thanks for the reply's a friend has a 2013 horseman I compared it to and I see the wave feature is slightly bigger on the newer model which should make it easier to wave so for that reason alone I may return it

I would send it back. The standoffs and back spacer is pure aesthetics so that wouldn't be reason enough for me. The differences in the wave is the kicker for me. The little nub on the 2012 and older does not work nearly well as the full wave that they put on the newer knives.

Plus it sounds like you went into the deal expecting one thing and got another, that right there is reason enough. A very small difference but still.

Now you have added another dimension to your story, as you did not mention the "wave" in the first post. If you truly want the larger wave gizmo, than the return for exchange is your only option.

As I said the back spacer v/s stand off thing is really just a thing once you have the knife you you are other wise happy with you will loose sight of I will assume.

I sure did mention it that was what I was pondering as well "I see they also changed the wave feature looks like they made it a bit bigger on the 2013"

Akapennypincher, I appreciate your enthusiasm but please don't assume anything about the OP. We don't know anything about him or the knife. Here's the problem, I can't assess this issue without knowing where the knife came from. If he doesn't want to respond then I can't help.

Hi sorry I failed to reply in a timely manner, I'd rather not say who the seller is. They did say they were clearing out old stock and didn't except to have any newer models in anytime soon. They did have a 2013 mini commander they offered to send me as a replacement which I excepted

Glad you got it straightened out. It helps to know who the seller was because people automatically assume that it's EKI. We wouldn't give out false information about a product we were sending out.

Thanks, no it was not EKI. I know the seller messed up but they gave me great customer service calling me personal a few times making sure I was happy so I don't want anyone to think ill of them...mistakes happen

Well if you had as you say a "great customer service" you should share the vendors name so people know who has great customer service! JMHO

I've always preferred the backspacer over the standoffs, to be honest.

Cool that you're getting an M-Comm. Great knife, right there.

Yeah been watching some vids on the mini commander kinda glad they didn't have any new horsemans
