Should I keep the 580-2?

I'm on vacation in Nashville, TN, and on the ride over I made a pit stop at SMKW. Naturally, before leaving I bought the new Benchmade Barrage with G10 handles. I'm not a BM connoisseur, but I was thoroughly impressed. The differences between the G10 version and the Valox are of course the handle scales, but also S30V blade steel (compared to the standard 154cm). My question is this:

I am planning on stopping by SMKW on the way home again to look around and stretch my legs. Should I return the knife and buy the standard barrage to increase funding for other knife purchases? I haven't seen any hype or talk of the 580-2 on these forums, which leads me to believe it's a bust of a knife.

I know in the end it all comes down to my person decision, but I was curious as to everyone else's. The price difference is ~$35. Thanks!

If you're talking the large version with aluminum bolster then if you like it get it. I have one and with the spring assist I love it! It has the right heft and feels solid! I'm not a fan of the Griptilian anymore because of it. IMO the $ difference is worth it. SMKW is a fun place to shop, but, they tend to be more expensive. Just there at thanksgiving.

For $35 it's most definitely worth keeping. People spend upwards of $100 upgrading their Griptilian, mini Griptilian, etc scales to G10, so for the $35 it's not even something that should be considered. G10 also gives a much higher quality feel compared to the "plastic" scales. You can't buy much for $35 anyway so I would just forget about it and enjoy your new knife. If you decide to sell it down the road the G10 version will hold its value better anyway.

Keep it. The 580-2 is a great combination of G-10 and S30V. I haven't seen the specs, but the scales look slimmer than do the plastic versions on the stock 580 models. And that colour gray is a refreshing change.

Just because there isn't much talk/hype in regard to the 580-2, doesn't mean it's a bust.. If you like it, then enjoy it and keep it.

I never hear anything about 531's and it's still my all time favorite BM..

Awesome point. Hadn't even thought about a bunch of that. Thanks!
