Here is one of my edc knives. A CRKT Brian Tighe design. I really like the look of the knife, except for the handle material. It's made of zytel plastic.

I was thinking of changing up the handle, and making my own. Maybe out of bone or antler. Any opinions out there?

Go for it! If will make the knife unique and personalize it. Its a nice knife but it isnt something rare that you would be unable to replace if your mod doesnt go well.

+1 go for it! I try to add a personal touch to all my knives, it makes them feel more unique and suited to me.

If It's not broken, don't fix it. ;)

True. And besides that it's a crkt. Nothing to write home about. You have to resharpen them so much, there will be nothing left of the blade in a few years anyway.
The two crkt's I once had, I gave away as I got sick of sharpening them all the frikkin time. Gave em away and glad to be rid of them.

It may not be the best knife, but I do like to tinker.

Well, since its your knife, and you apparently like bone and/or antler, and you like to tinker...then yes, do it.

Also, if you prefer vanilla ice cream to chocolate, I say you should eat vanilla. :D

Go for it! Just remember, take your time and do it right.

Regardless if it's a CRK or a Gerber, I'd mod it if it were mine.

Yeah go for it. Even if something does go wrong you could always put the factory scales back on it

Go for it. Learn on the cheap knives because you will make mistakes. I must caution you that modding can lead to knifemaking full on.

Why not ? If it goes wrong you still have the original scales. You can also use them as a template

I've always been a fan of modding. As CM said, though, be careful! Like him, knife modding got me hooked on full-on knifemaking. Well, to be honest, half the blades I've made have been swords, not knives, but yeah. You get the idea.

Also, safety first!

I've got some antler pieces laying around. I think I'll try it out and see how it goes. As for the knife making hobby, I think this will get me well under way.
