Hey guys how are yah

I'm changing jobs now, because i hurt my knee and can not do order picking right now, because there are times i'm lifting boxes which are more than a hundred pounds. Currently i'm on modified duty, and placed in an office right beside a mall. I think this is the biggest mall or maybe the second biggest in Canada.

I'm on my break and i discover a knife store which carries quality blades. Benchmades, Spydercos and so forth. Now i'm like i love knives and i can talk about them all day long maybe i should apply for a job within this store.

firstly they have no signs up that they are hiring
Secondly I think it would be pretty out of the ordinary that i go asking for a job even though they might not need anyone at all. I'm also quite young, but i can not think of a cooler job. "Maybe working at the Spyderco factory as quality control so i get to handle every blade" :D that would be so wicked.

Long story short should i go and drop of a resume or just leave it alone.

take care

What the hell?

I really can't see any reason for you not to drop off a resume.

You're obviously interested in working at the store. What's the worst that could happen if you drop one off? They say no.

I only wish there were B&M knife stores around here so I could apply.

PS - It's not out of the ordinary to apply even though the store doesn't have signs up.

Good luck!

I wasnted to apply at plaza cutlery but they only hire at 18, they all know my face. So next year, all me baby.

I got my job by just dropping off a resume and talking to the guy (who happened to be the owner) for a bit. A month and a half later I was hired...I had kinda forgotten that I dropped it off in the first place:o

Look at it this way...they can hire either a guy who knows little about knives and cares even less, or a guy who really likes knives and could probably SELL a few instead of just ring someone up at the register. They pay both guys the same, but you LIKE knives, so why not you?

you hurt yourself lifting boxes and now you want to work at a place with lots of sharp things? good call

seriously though.....drop off a resume.....always give yourself options.

Sure, I think you should fill out one of their applications, even if they're not currently hiring. They'll probably keep it on file for future reference.

Here is the biggest downside of retail. They don't pay much and all of your money will end up being spent on knives. Wait a second, thats not a bad thing. Nevermind.:D

If I had a knife store that carried quality knives that I like near me... HA, I'd be there right now waiting till they opened in the morning. But nay, I do not, so take the opportunity and give it a try. Just be warned... discounts can be a HORRIBLE thing when - and if - you buy too often which is usually the case. I worked at Best Buy for three years and I had $15,000 go out through my discount code. Believe me... it's evil :-)

I'd probably have tried working for a knife shop if I hadn't had a pretty good job when I was a little younger that I didn't want to leave. Too many bills now to make under a certain income :( otherwise I'd still have a fun job :p. Do it now while you can and enjoy it while it lasts :D

If you don't apply then for the rest of your life you will never know if a great opportunity was missed. As someone else has said, worst case is they say No. You then ask them why and a conversation ensues which will get you remembered and may pay divis in the future. WARNING. Try to speak to a decision maker and not just another employee who may see you as a threat. Good luck & let us know how you get on. David

Your comments sure made laugh pretty hard. It reminds me of cutting my self with a Spyderco Necklace & I still don't understand how that happened :D

Best Buy discount is straight up Evil. I worked for them as well and after making 3-4 thousand as a seasonal worker. I gave it all back and then some to that wonderful store :D .

Money is important to me but I'm gonna be working later in September as a respite worker & going to school, But i would love to work here part time or even a few hours a week. Getting paid to talk about knives if only bladeforums was like that. We would all be millionaires or even gazzilionaires.
