Should I order a 940-1 or hold on for something else?

I have always wanted a 940 and this edition seems like one to get my hands on. I'm also wondering if there is anything coming out this year that I should just save my money for. Opinions on 940 and any thoughts/suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

940 may be my favorite EDC of all time. Top 3 at least. Before the price increase it was a good deal. Now for $50 more that's debatable. They're on the exchange all the time for as low as $100. 940-1 isn't on my radar at all.

The 940 is one of the best EDC's I've ever owned (out of hundreds, literally) - the only question is which version to get:

And even if you change your mind down the road for some reason, they hold their value extremely well.

The 940 is a great knife and the combination of carbon fiber and S90V is really out of the ballpark. I'd wait.

My 940 is EDC brilliance, and was usually what inhabited my pocket when I wanted slim and light. Gotta say though, since I got the 943, it's mostly taken over that place.

I stopped buying BM when the prices went up. The only thing BM has that's tempting me this year is the 940-1, that looks utterly awesome.
But I haven't placed an order. I'm procrastinating.
Because I am so hoping they add a 943-1. Please. Even though it's too expensive, I couldn't say no to that.

If you are prepared to pay the price of the 940-1, I think you will be very happy with it or any 940 for that matter.

Which model is that?

IIRC the 940-1 will be regular production so you have some time to think about it

If it's just function you're looking for, as mentioned above you can p/u a clean 940/943 for $150 less than this one-- there seem to be more avail lately (I've bot 2) I suspect just cuz guy's are making room for the new one. But in spite of the $$$ this one is special, if you want something classy, as well....

I like my 940, but I don't really EDC it. I have my pre-order in for the 940-1, but believe that I'll be cancelling that order. For me, I can't see spending that much coin on that knife. I got caught up in all the hype when the pre-orders started and I had just gotten my pre-owned 940, so I was all stoked-up about it all. Since some time has passed and I've learned more about the new pricing structure of BM and how that's effected the end user, I've decided to no longer patronize BM. I'll probably keep my current 940 for a very long time and will eventually, sell my First Production run 531, but I will make no additional BM purchases. I still have my 556 Mini-Grip w/440C that I purchase I don't know how many years ago, that I'll eventually sell as well, simply because I don't use it at all.

So, to sum it up, I love the looks of the 940-1, however I don't see the value in that product. That's just me, as your mileage may vary.

Does the 940-1 have the same aluminum scales? I have owned the 943 and the 707 and found the scales to chip easily. That's why I like my rift. Keeps it's good looks unlike me and my wife.

940-1 is carbon fiber. I agree their anodized coating or whatever it is, sucks regarding showing wear.

The 940-1 is one of the few exciting knives that Benchmade is putting out this year (not counting Gold Class knives that I can't afford).

I wish they'd stop screwing around with limited production versions of the Ares, but other than that - I've got just about every Benchmade that I want. Come to think of it, I seem to be in that boat with Spyderco and ZT too. The new 0770cf is semi-exciting, but I may be getting to the end of the folding-knife rainbow.

Once I found out that the 940-1 was open-pillar construction, it just confirmed that I was all-in.

I'm surprised they didn't go with M390, which they've got a lot more experience with.

Pillars - someone else posted in some other thread that they were going to pass because of the standoffs, which surprised me - they wanted the solid backspacer. I personally have no preference with this particular knife. It'll be interesting to see how this one looks when it arrives - should be a great looker, great to handle, and a great performer, assuming the HT is where the catalog says it will be.
