Well, I just received my ZT 0200 yesterday and it's fantastic. The ergonomics are fantastic and the knife is just flat out awsome.

One issue for me though. The blade is sharp, but nothing compared to my Spyderco Native that I reground. It can cut, but the native's current edge is so much better. Should I regrind it flat?

if you can do it, then by all means go for it! if not so much or you are hesatant, talk to tom krien, for like $35 he will regrind it however you wish, and he is freaky good at it too.

i say yeah....it will only slice better the thinner it is...the consideration is one-what r u gonna use the knife for....and 2-can the steel in question support the grind you put on it.....go for it brother....ryan

As long as you do a good job and the finish looks good,go for it. Most knives are ground too thick for my tastes, anyway.

Of course :D

It will cut much better and likely be easier to sharpen.

How thin did you take your Native? Any specific ideas in mind for the 154CM ZT 0200?

I'd say it depends on how hard you plan on working the knife. I've found my 0200 works best at 30 inclusive, but I use it hard.

I would give it a go, but dont go super fine on 154CM...I find that 154CM cuts best with a convex edge and going too thin will make the edge roll if you hit anything tough while cutting.

If I can throw in my suggestion: The ZT line is design for strength. Thinning the blade would reduce one of the reasons for investing in the ZT in the first place. What I would suggest is leaving your 0200 as is for hard use and getting a Lahar, which is a slicing machine, and thinning the blade on it.
Kinda against the stream, I know, but having one brute folder in the rotation isn't a bad idea.
Whichever you decide, enjoy that 0200!

+1

Also, you gotta think about the possibility of removing too much steel and getting the balance all wonky.

Well, some of you are probably gonna think I'm crazy. I sold my 0200 to my friend, and bought a Digi Camo Millie. The 0200 is just a tad too big. Nice knife though.

Are you going to reprofile the Military? :)

Probably not. The only reason actually that I reground my native was because this guy I know asked to borrow it for a second and I turn away and look back and within 5 seconds he's throwing it into the ground. I get home and try to cut open the outer plactic wrapping on a cologne bottle and it can't do it. I'm in shock because just hours before it was hair whittling sharp. I turn it over and notice that the blade is scratched and the edge is flattened:mad:. So I got my 1x30 cheap harbor freight belt sander and flat ground it with a 320 belt, and then polished it with white compound on a 1x30 leather wheel.

So, yeah, probably not. A few passes with the fine, and ultra fine rods followed by a good strop is all I'll need. Unless something like that was to ever happen again.

It's amazing how fast some people can ruin a good edge :p

How do the ZT 0200 and Military compare as far as blade geometry go? I've considered an 0200 for a while but fear I might also feel it's larger than I need.

I have no idea. My millie should get here friday. I'll post then.

This is not an issue to be voted on - my grandfather kept his knives with very thin edges, but he was a shoe maker and he worked with them. As to ZT 0200, I wrote to company's HQ and they informed that its Rc value is 58.5. Now it's up to you to decide.

My favorite knives always become more favored when I give them a nice, thin, screaming sharp edge.

Just remember to tape it up (keep it from getting all scratched).
