Should I Repair

My 110 has the *110** on the blade and it no longer locks....I realize Buck has a generous Life Time Warranty, my question is do I lose anything by having it repaired, or am I better off leaving it alone. It looks like the lock back has lost it's toe that engages the blade. This is not something that gets carried and used a lot, but will be something I can pass down to my boys, seeing this blade is 16 years older than my oldest, and 21 years older than my youngest. I know a knife that doesn't lock is a safety issue, but what are your thoughts?

If it were mine I'd contact Joe Houser at Buck and see if it can be repaired. You could also get a spa treatment at the same time. That way you'll be passing down a useable piece of history.

I suggest you contact Buck. My experience with their repair and customer service has been very positive.

Get it repaired, but buy the boys their own also when you know they will appreciate the gesture.

I'm in the "repair it" camp. You would be surprised how nice that would look cleaned up. Even the sheath could look much better with a little black dye.

Your knife doesn't look abused at all...it could have decades more life with the repair.

Yes alot of life left in that blade for sure, and I agree about some dye on that sheath, it has good life left in it too.

Thank you all...sent an email to Buck today...gonna see what can be done and get the boot polish out for the sheath...

Now that you posted the before pictures, we will be waiting for the "after" pictures.

ok I see what I think happened
and YES Joe and the elves at buck will want to see that "toe" of the blade were it is broke off
now as to repair..
they will put a NEW blade in it if it the blade as I think
Unless it is the catch on the black rocker..
then they will replace the rocker and spring
BUT
of course email and check with Joe to be sure this will be ok to do !!!

if you wish to keep your knife
AS ORGIONAL
then find a replacement knife with a good matching blade
send it in with your one with sentimental attachments
( id it real well with labels!)
and they CAN take the correct blade out of the other
and put it in your knife..
of course they will keep the donor knife for parts..

My partial reply from Buck:

Please send your knife in for evaluation and include contact information inside the package along with a note as to what is wrong with it. Also note if the knife is sentimental and if you wouldn’t want it replaced only repaired.

If the damage is determined due to a manufacture defect, it will be covered under warranty.

If determined due to misuse in anyway; then minimal charges will apply.

I sent 2 knives in for warranty repair earlier this month. First time I needed to do that.
2 weeks later they were back in my mailbox.
One they fixed, cleaned, polished and sharpened it to the factory edge. It came back looking brand new.
The second one was too far gone, so they replaced it with a new one.

It was definately more than worth the cost of mailing them in!

Ok...this update is way over due, and I apologize.....here are the beforre and after of my 110...
BEFORE....and the lock function did not work....

Looks like they replaced or repaired the lock lever...I asked they preserve the parts in the following order-handle, blade and lock lever....the scratches on the blade are still visible from pre-spa treatment....BTW...this knife is now in my son's pocket and a daily carry....Should be good for another 20 years...also Buck sent a 25% discount for an on-line purchase....so th 105 was ordered....Too cool...Bill

Great, I'm glad you got it repaired and shaped up. Looks good. Enjoy the new life out of it. Looks like they did you a fine job. DM
