I picked up this Plumb Scout Axe at a yard sale and can't decide if I should replace the handle. It has a few chips in it from over strikes. I love the patina on the handle and the fact that It says "Official Scout Axe".
One of my best friend's sons, who is 17, just made Eagle Scout and I am giving him this axe as a congratulations gift. He is a scout leader and this axe will be getting used!
The pics include images of the axe handle as well a a nice replacement scout axe handle that I have from House Handle Company.
***Lastly, If anyone can tell me any info about the head, that would be great: especially when it was made!
Thanks everyone!

no dude, leave it be, keep the handle, you may need it eventually. maybe give it a rawhide collar for overstrikes but that thing is amazing

I agree there is more value in giving him it with the original handle plus a replacement and when the time comes he can learn an important skill in how to re-handle a tool as well. That's a win win I think :)
