Should I sell most my production knives to get this??

I really love this knife! I have never had a sebbie, or a strider. I have never thought about puting my spydercos (Bead blasted mini manix, and bead blasted waved yojimbo) and my benchmades (210 TK, my brand new mini skirmish "what a knife"), up for sale (flea bay). To get one knife.

BUT this Kirby Lambert has got me all twisted up! I have to have this knife.
What would you do. I only really carry my spyderco spin, and SE Caly 3 now. I would not be selling these, just the ones I don't really carry all that much?

I have looking at the olive drab sniper fl http://www.truenorthknives.com/tnk_1mainframe.htm

What would you do. I will use this knife, not beat it but use it as a knife(tool)

If it is as you say, a knife that you have to have, then sell whatever you need to to get it.

I sold the vast majority of my production knives to get into customs several years ago. I only regret selling a few of the more rare E.C. Simmons Keen Kutters I had...as far as the newer stuff I sold goes--I never miss it:yawn:

That is the knife, I might have to order it, and wait for it. I just want to have the money in hand when its ordered.

Seems like it would fit me perfect. I would trade all knives I listed for it if given the chance, so my knives will be on the bay soon.

Does anyone here have a Lambert knife? I like the frame lock with the scale overlay. It would open smoother than my mini skirmish. When I open the skirmish my fingers grab the lock bar and push it in the dedent(sp?) anyways it makes it harder to open. I can open it with out my fingers there but it makes it harder(weird finger position) you know?

When I started purchasing custom knives, I sold all except for a few of my favorite production knives so that I would have enough to purchase that first custom. I am not sorry that I did.

So-lo, I would recommend getting a gold membership right here at Bladeforums, and then selling your knives to specific knife nuts. You would be supporting the place that will give you tons of good info, and giving us first crack at a good deal. Plus you can host photos here too.

Congrats on considering moving up the ladder to customs. Kirby's work is well-known and sought-after.

I have Lamberts, they are very nicely made knives. I agree with you, if your fingers push in the lock bar when you try to open a framelock, the detent will make it harder for the blade to come out. A scale overlay will definitely keep you from pressing in the lock bar like that. Personally, I just keep my fingers off of the lock bar when I open a framelock, it's not difficult for me to do that comfortably, but an overlay does make it easier.

If you Gotta have it,then sell the Prod. knives you said you don't use or carry. You will be Damn Happy with one of Lamberts knives.

Though I've never had a chance to meet the man himself, we both live in the same city and the knife community is fairly small. Everyone says the same thing......... His work is top notch! He's gotten some high praise from some very knowledgeable people, it rumored that Greg Lightfoot has been seen carrying one of Kirby's works.

I have pretty much sold off ALL my production knives, except for a few very special ones. I just have custom knives now. Get the Lambert!!!

So it is! This plan will be carried through. I think I won't ever look back, not because they are bad blades. But because they are not custom blades. I just feel that I have outgrown productions. I always get the best I can afford at that given time. When I buy tools I buy snap on, when I buy wine I start at 25$ (I know thats a little low, but it what I can afford). So anyways that just the way I do things, so I can afford this knife because I have all ready spent the money. So maybe I should go gold and do what Coop said.

So my next step would be finding out how long the wait list is, I hope its not a year or more.

My general rule is: if its replaceable with the same thing then I sell it. If its not replaceable, or fairly hard to replace, then I keep it or use it as a trader for something I really want .

Of course NOT.

Because on another thread, Kgriggs8 (who most on this customs forum consider an expert:jerkit: ) says production knives are better. :D ;)

I have spent most of my knife funds on customs for the past few years and I've really enjoyed them. I still buy production on occasion but customs hold a far greater appeal for me now. I think that Kirby would be a fine first custom!

I think I like the scales he has on this one a little better.

I e-mailed Kirby with a few questions, one being how long is the wait list?. As you guys know I have never ordered a custom. I like it just the way it is in this picture. Should I ask anything else?
Monday I will refurbish my productions, and deside how I will sell them. This makes me feel giddy as a school girl in a shoe store!

SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the great advice everyone
