Should I sell my StarTac?

Hey everyone,
I bought a Wilson Combat StarTac not too long ago if some of you remember my "What knife should I get next" type threads. I've been using it and I love it. It's AWESOME. However I feel like it's almost too pretty/fancy/expensive to use hard, to beat up and everything. Also, my cars coolant system literally just died completely after I spent tons of money fixing it myself. So I need to get that fixed and monies tight.

So my question is, should I sell it? And if so what would be a decent replacement that isn't as expensive? I'd like to find something that's not as common as benchmade or spyderco or whatever. As always, thank you all for your time and input. It is greatly appreciated.

Absolutely not. Once you build up your funds again and acquire other knives, you will realize that the CRK stops being a thing of beauty and expense, and you realize it's simply just the benchmark for a good knife. Other knives can do things like it, but not all of them at once.

Honestly, use it, carry it with keys in the pocket. The spa service is $30 and I've never used but it's what lets me not care about swinging a CRK at anything I need to turn into two things.

Once you get into custom knives like me, then you take it one step further and you realize they are just things haha.

I think "luxury" items (especially ones you decide to keep) should be bought with money you accept as being lost and never to be had again - a sunk cost. If your finances make it difficult to for you to keep the knife... then you've already answered your own question. You can always buy it back again down the road. My recommendation? Use the heck out of it for the rest of your life. Do your best to keep it and sell something else you don't need. :p

I wouldn't sell a limited edition knife that I really like, unless there was no other way to get money for something urgent. If it was a standard CR knife, I'd tell you to sell it since they aren't hard to come by and you can replace it later on. But I don't know how plentyful Star Tacs will be in the future.

Do you have any other knives to sell? Maybe something that you either don't like as much or that's a regular production item.

I'd keep it, because I like the name, it reminds me of the Motorola Startac I used to have way back when lol.

What do you need more urgently? A functioning automobile or a nice knife?

That's the big question. The other is what do you want to sell first, the knife or other things to get the car up and running. Functioning car is pretty dang important in my book and should take a higher priority than a knife.

Yes you have to have wheels, that is for sure. That said is there anything else sitting around collected dust you could part with? Gotta be something or things ...

At this point I'm pretty convinced I should keep it. *whew* I really didn't want to sell it.

Sell it.

Buy the parts DIY...Car fixed..

Get a used PM2.

Done

Sell it.

You can't drive your knife to work. Knives do not help you get chicks.

There's no shame in carrying an inexpensive knife, but there is severe shame in not having basic transportation...unless you live in NYC or some other place with a good bus or train service :)

I'll have to say that the "common" Spyderco knives are by far my favorite. I've been through many folders over the past year or two, in prices up to $725, and I've come to the conclusion that it's hard to beat a PM2, a Sage 2, a Manix 2 LW in S110v, a Chaparral (office), Caly 3 or 3.5 in ZDP or Super Blue(office). All of these are cheap, comparatively, at less than $150. I could be restricted to any one of these, forever, and be well served and proud of my knife.
If it's between having a car or having an expensive knife, I'll take the car any day.

I completely disagree. Luxury items are nice to have when things are going well but they are not important on the grand scheme of things. especially a knife. I have no problem getting rid of things like if/when time get tough. Do what you have to do, you can buy another knife later.

For sure I would keep it and use it that knife is made to last more than a lifetime. =)
