Should I send in my para 2?

Hi, I've had my para 2 for about a year, (bought at the beautiful factory outlet!) and it has gotten extremely slow and not smooth. One of my pivot screws has stripped out, so I can't loosen it, much less take it apart

So I was looking for some advice, should I live with it, or would they fix it for me sending it in? I have taken it apart before, but do they really invalidate my warranty for that?

The bushing system on the Para 2 should make over tightening of the pivot impossible. Have you tried putting some lube in the knife, or flushing it out with hot water or WD-40? It might just be gunked up. Or is it possible that you messed it up when you disassembled it?

They might. The only way to find out is to ask. (Them, not us.) Even if they say yes, they might charge you.

If you put it back together correctly, Spyderco shouldn't even be able to tell. At least not without some kind of magnifying glass or microscope, and they don't check knives that thoroughly. Or so I assume.

Yes, taking it apart invalidates the warranty. Even partial disassembly entirely voids it.

I'd email or call them directly and see what they say.

Run it under hot water for a bit while opening and closing the blade to dislodge any dirt or gunk stuck around the pivot, the blow it out with compressed air and relube. If that doesn't work you could always take it apart and clean it. You should still be able to disassemble it with one stripped pivot screw since you only will need to remove the screws from one side to take the knife apart. If voiding your warranty isn't your cup of tea and a simple cleaning doesn't fix it you'll just have to send it in.

Only if you're stupid enough to tell them. You've got to read between the lines on these kinds of things...
If they really didn't want you taking your knives apart, they'd check them with the aforementioned magnifying glasses or microscopes. What the warranty really says, is "if you take your knife apart and mess it up, then we're not responsible."

Spyderco will charge you $5 for maintenance and sharpening, the fee is for return shipping. So for around $10 out of pocket your problems should be solved.

Use proper torx tools and stripping of screws won't be an issue. you can maintain it yourself.

Thanks for the replies. It doesn't appear to be gunk causing the problem; it really just feels like it got over tightened, which is odd. I have cleaned and lubed it, but it doesn't take away the resistance in it. It'll close, but it won't swing as freely as it did before. I can really feel the detent rubbing against it as well, which is odd. Despite the detent issue, it is still extremely tight when the lock is disengaged. I'll e-mail spyderco, but more advice is always welcome.
