Should I send my Sebenza to Chris Reeve

Hi everyone,

I am new here, and new to the world of Chris Reeve Knifes. I just bought a large Sebenza 21 about one month ago. I love the knife, but I just have one question for everyone here. Is it normal to have to push one the lockbar of your sebenza to achieve no bladeplay and a solid lockup?

All answers are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ben

No

Send it in if you like, but it "should" be a easy fix if your up to try. Take her a part and bend the lockbar over a little more. The Ti is very springy' so you will have to bend it past where you want it to be.

Don't not go crazy with the bending, just moving it a little will put that extra force needing to get that "bank vault" lockup. I know this all sounds hard and a little risky, but it's not!

Should save $20-$30 in shipping and you will never have to be with out it for a week or so. Plus ya' can't really hurt it... Ti would be very very hard to break. I would say give it a shot.

Of course, if you don't feel satisfied with your $400+ knife, you're not going to hurt his feelings by sending it in.

BUT you will be out the shipping and won't be able to use it for a week or two.

Are you kidding me? You have to make a sizable car payment for that knife... it better be friggen flawless. That's my opinion, of course. Titanium does break, btw... not saying that it will, but if it does, what then? I would send it in.

Something about "fixing" a $400 knife doesn't sit well with me. Call me crazy.

You're Crazy!:p
your new around here, fixing a $400 knife is regular business, and you should see some of the mods done to knives every bit as expensive if not more, just because the owner wanted something different.

And breaking the Ti lock is something that would require a whole lot more force that you or I could achieve with our fingers just adjusting the lock bar, which in the end is most likely all that CRK would do any way.

Yeah. that's a problem, and a rare one. Every Sebenza I've ever seen locked up like a bank vault. Bending the lock bar a little should work, but don't hesitate to send it in.

While I do agree, he will still be without the knife and will be out at the very least $20 maybe $30? My post was just a solution to the OP's question.

Sending it in would be best, but if it was mine I would bend the lockbar over a little and see if that fixes it. Of course if I went "incredible Hulk" on it and way way over bent it to the point of breaking it I would be willing to pay for another lockside scale.

Hi,

I really appreciate all the help so far. I did try bending the lockbar and it did help a lot, but I still have to push just a bit to get it to lock up like a bank vault. Another problem I have is how far over the lockbar goes. It almost touches the other edge of the handle.

Do you have any pix of the lockup?

All of mine cover 80-90% of the tang.

that is too late for a frame lock. I agree with the "send it in comments".

It may not be "too late" for a Sebenza ;)
