Should I send this Busse back?

I'm posting here because I want to get some thoughts from people who aren't biased. I recently got this TGLB back from Busse (after having returned it once already) and noticed that it had a very sloppy sharpening job which has left the cutting edge with a "recurve". I'm loath to deal with sending it back across the border a second time if it's not necessary. Any thoughts on whether this uneven edge will be an issue in the future, either when trying to sharpen it or just under general use?

That happens often with factory knives as the person doing the sharpening is trying to be careful not to mark up the choil . I am sure after you use/dull it and go to sharpen it yourself it will be gone in no time. If you are still not sure I would send them an email with this picture and see what they say.

Custom feature. Love it and cut down light poles with it...thats what they are for!
 
hold the area outlined with the red line over a table (glass, granite or something that's almost guaranteed to be flat and won't warp is better). is light still passing through? i.e. the edge is still not straight? if yes, i'd send it back.

if no then it's an easy fix if you know how to sharpen and preferrably have diamond stones (to make the grinding faster). just grind off the area marked with the red circle until there's no light passing through the edge anymore when you hold it on a flat surface. depending on your sharpening skills, that area might get really dull in which case you can bring it back to sharp over time.

i had a similar issue with my fallkniven s1 and just go slow with the grinding...after 5-6 sharpenings later the whole edge is flat and sharp including the area i ground off.


edit: imho this is the best advice you're going to get before the busse fanboys & haters start piling on again and turning this thread into a pissing match...i'd say lock it and move on with my advice :p
 
Its a hand crafted knife. No 2 knives will be the same because it wasn't 1 of 100000 that was stamped out by a machine in China. Love it for being slightly unique from every other knife out there. It would never affect how the knife performs.
 
Some of the knives I have are like that. If you are going to use it, then it doesn't matter. If you are just going to have it sit in a drawer, send it back.

I am pretty sure they are CNC machined but I could be wrong. We had a couple returned from our first batch of Centurions, and they were bought up immediately. Our next run will be flawless though. Not everyone is happy with a rough finish, it is to be expected when you are selling knives. If he sends it back it would be sold almost immediately so Busse wont care. The OP should probably look at more factory made knives though that are cut out with a dye or something (how does SOG do them in Taiwan? They finish on them usually looks pretty good). Me personally, I would always take the CNC job, just the same way I got the Hoyt Vector over the Hoyt Rampage (the Vector has a CNC machined Aluminium riser while the Rampage has a cast magnesium riser which is a lot cheaper, both are good though).
 
Why are people so accepting of this? Kind of thing is VERY annoying when it comes to sharpening again. You'll have to use a rod, dowel with sandpaper or some kind of conical sharpener to get into the concave area now.
 
i dunno, i feel like i accept too much sometimes, ive had a bunk smf and a cqc15, both of witch the lock would slide right off and close on your hand, both brand new but i just sucked it up and fixed them myself.
 
Not an issue on a user.

In fact, recurve edges are popular on cutters and choppers, folders, and fixed.

If it bugs you send it back.

If you plan on using it, rub some dirt on it, and call it good.


Honestly, if you are not pleased, just sent it back. You won't ever be happy with it, and Busse will happily refund your money.
