should I sharpen it

Ok, I just got a Black Ti Police model today, and I noticed that the coating also covers the edge, preventing it from being sharp. Should I sharpen this knife to remove the coating on the edge? Or would it be best to leave it as it is? Any info would be great.

I bought a Dragonfly that was the same way. You can search the posts, but I believe these coated knives were done by a second party and not by Spyderco. I used my Crock Sticks and sharpened the blade. This took off the appropriate amount of black, leaving a clean shiny edge...Ed.

I wouldent worry about it, when it needs a sharpen, sharpen it. Is it sharp now? If so, don't worry about it. If not sharpen away!

Hey guys

I took your advice, and tried to give that blade a sharpening. It's sharper than it was,but still not razor scare the hair off your arm sharp.I must admit I think it's the stones as they have been passed down to me and they're about 10 years old. Just seem like they won't sharpen as well as they used to, even after a good scrubbing.Oh well, I'm working on getting a sharpmaker now, so that should take care of my sharpening needs from now on.
